Till death does its part...

The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window. Accompanied by the wailing of a mournful widow.

The force of the breeze howls through the trees, while the moon paints forms of long dark shadows. Chilled to the bone you've lost your way home, while icy terror shakes you to the marrow.

Slowly you creep to take a quick peek, through a window that leaks, the sound of dread to your ears. Your skin begins to crawl, the wailing rises and falls, as you try your best, to calm your fears.

You're struck with shock when you spy a bloodied cloth, covering something on a bed nearby. Darkly dressed with black hair on a wear battered chair, sits a lone figure that twists towards you as it wipes its eyes.

You step to one side, to avoid inquiring eyes, that search for you from which you wish to hide.

"Why do you creep when the floorboards creak?" you hear a chilling voice call. But your body would shudder as it pushes back harder, against the outside wall.

"I know you are out there, come to the door." Your brain wants to run but your legs have gone numb. So you shuffle across the porchway floor.

Before you can knock you hear the door unlock. Knowing you can no longer ignore. Startled you jump as the door swings wide with a thump, revealing a creature with long twisted claws.

Hidden under a cowl and a stench so foul, she beckons you to come indoors.

"Oh, no, no I'll go away and leave you alone."

But the ability to say that is all but gone.

You take a deep breath and then a few steps, the door behind you then responds. Swinging on its hinge, locking you in, with the shadows of the terrifying home. "Where have you been?" Her voice rises to a scream. Her eyes, red with a fire that scares you to the bone.

Again, the question she repeats, her breath of decaying death, how sickly it strongly reeks.

You don't understand... "Who is this creature that asks such demands?"

There is something about her that looks familiar. Or is it just a memory that seems so similar?

"Who are you?" You dare to ask.

Her face changes causing you to gasp.

"Now you see the truth. For there is no need for any other proof."

Your knees go weak, what strength you once had at your peak, in comparison feels so meek.

"Yes, you know me now. Someone who was once beautiful, loving, and proud. Someone you destroyed with your abuse and lies, whose right to a decent life you thoroughly denied."

To the shape on the bed, your eyes eventually wander.

"Yes look at the true love that with your wicked jealousy, you cast asunder."

Now things are falling into place. Back to a different time in a different space.

A time when lies, cheating and murder was to you just a game. If you got caught, your respected position allowed you to pass on the blame.

"What you see today, is all that is left of your precious prey. You hunted and stalked then finally destroyed the one who refused to turn your way."

The looming shadow of guilt overtakes your fears, the true reality of your life brings you to tears.

"Now that you too have entered the realm of the dead. You shall replace the one laying at peace on the bed. You finally have that which your jealousy sought, I willingly allow myself now to be caught."

Realisation hits you hard, the realm of the dead was not your planned path.

"How did I get here?" you had to ask.

"You put too much faith in your lying twisted mask."

People finally saw right through you, a truth you are forced to admit. Eventually someone judged you how they saw fit.

"For many years you chased my heart, everyone I loved you tore apart. Many times you tried to make me your wife until in the end, you stole my life.

Never again will you gaze upon my beauty nor enjoy the sweet scent of my body. Our union is now sealed for all eternity. Fear and torment will always be your capacity.

To you, I forever give my stone-cold heart, now that death, has finally done its part."
