After a long, anxious wait, fans have finally seen The Walking Dead's season 10 finale, 'A Certain Doom'. The finale was pulled from it's original airdate earlier this year after COVID-19 restrictions kept the visual effects and editing from being completed on time. Thankfully, it was well worth the wait.

Here are all the best moments from 'A Certain Doom'.

1. Gabriel's speech

The opening minutes of 'A Certain Doom' debuted months ago on Talking Dead, with a slightly extended version of the clip later used as a promo during this year's San Diego Comic-Con @Home event. However, fans were happy to see it again in the episode proper.

Set against the backdrop of everyone preparing for the attack of the Whisperer's and their horde, Father Gabriel delivers a speech intended to comfort a frightened Gracie and RJ. He explains that the teamwork of the various communities- Alexandria, Hilltop, Kingdom, Oceanside, and any other good people who might be around- were the best possible weapon against their enemies. It was a great opening scene, perfectly setting up and foreshadowing the rest of the episode.

2. Maggie and her new friend save Father Gabriel

With a group of Whisperers about to break in, Father Gabriel makes the noble decision to stay behind and hold them off while the other survivors escape into the surrounding woodlands. Asking Judith to deliver a message to Rosita, Gabriel says a prayer, and prepares to face down the intruders.

Gabriel is quickly overwhelmed, but just as he is about to be killed, a knife-wielding masked stranger (the same one encountered by Aaron and Alden during Gabriel's opening monologue) bursts in, taking out the Whisperer's and saving Gabriel's life. One of the Whisperer's almost get's a jump on the Stranger, until Maggie Rhee creates a brand new iconic Walking Dead moment with her grand return, shooting the whisperer in the back of the head.

"Don't worry. He's with me."

3. The end of Beta

Unfortunately, the plan to lead the horde away from the hospital goes awry when the group's audio equipment is destroyed. Daryl proposes a new plan, that the group slip back among the herd and hunt down the remaining Whisperers. Lydia, having been trained by Alpha in how to guide Walkers, offers to lead them to the cliff.

As they begin carrying out the new plan, Beta spots Lydia, wearing a mask very similar to Alpha's, among the herd. Before he can confront her, however, he is intercepted by Negan. Beta quickly gets the better of Negan, until Daryl arrives, stabbing Beta in the eyes. Beta slowly rips off his mask, leaving Daryl and Negan to watch as he is consumed by walkers. As a final nod to Beta having been a celebrity in the past, Negan recognises him as he dies.

"Do you know who that asshole was?"

"Yeah.. nobody."

4. Lydia chooses her own path

The following morning, Lydia approaches the cliff with the horde (supposedly a suicide mission, as someone has to lead them over it), she is stopped by Carol, who intends to make the sacrifice herself. As Carol is about to make the final step, Lydia pulls her back.. But the Horde continues off the cliff anyway.

As the Walkers fall, Lydia tosses her skin mask over with them, symbolically freeing herself from her Mother's influence. Her brave act also allows Carol the opportunity to live on and truly redeem herself after the mistakes she has made this season.

5. Maggie reunites with Judith

This is a small moment, but a heart-warming one for those who have been with the show since the beginning. As everyone regroups in the woods, Judith shyly approaches Maggie. Maggie is overjoyed to find that Judith recognises her, and the two share a sweet hug.

With Michonne away, Judith will need a new Mother figure for a while. Maggie, already a Mother herself now, may be just the character to fill that void.

6. Weapons down!

Meanwhile, Eugene, Yumiko, Ezekiel, and new friend Princess continue on their journey to meet up with Eugene's radio pal, Stephanie. Unfortunately, due to a bike accident, they fail to reach the meeting on time. Eugene, unwilling to give up, delivers a rousing speech, encouraging the others to continue on their quest for 'like-minded folks'.

Unfortunately, soon after this speech, the group are surrounded by what looks to be a group of armoured soldiers. Though unconfirmed, these soldiers are most likely from the Commonwealth, the group at the centre of the comics' final story arc.

We can't wait to see what happens when The Walking Dead returns next year.
