Once upon a time, in the southern part of Trivandrum in ancient Kerala, there was a village called Pazhakanallur. In this village lived a beautiful woman named Alli. One day, Alli and her friend visited a temple where she met the handsome priest. Despite his charming appearance, Alli was unaware of his true character. The priest, who was of the Nampi race, was a man of ill repute. He was known to consume non-vegetarian food and drink liquor, and he also frequented houses of prostitution. Despite these unsavory traits, Alli became enamored with the priest and soon entered into a romantic relationship with him.

Alli's mother initially opposed the union, but eventually agreed to the marriage. However, after the wedding, the priest revealed his true colors. He began to steal from Alli's family and engage in other immoral activities. Eventually, a heated argument broke out between the priest and Alli's mother. In a fit of rage, the priest threatened to kill her and was only stopped when the guards intervened. The priest ran away and Alli decided to follow him.

She found the priest near a tree and attempted to reconcile with him. Exhausted, Alli fell asleep while the priest saw an opportunity to steal her golden ornaments. In a cruel twist of fate, the priest took a rock and struck Alli, killing her. Just as she died, Alli saw a Kalli plant and cried out that it was a witness to the terrible act. The priest attempted to flee but was bitten by a cobra and died. Alli's younger brother arrived on the scene, saw his sister's body, and committed suicide with the same rock used to kill her.

The Re-birth of Kalliyankattu Neeli and Her Brother

Years passed and in the year 1052 in Kaveripoom City, the queen gave birth to twins. An astrologer warned the king of evil presences surrounding the newborns and indeed, Kalliyankattu Neeli and her brother Neelan wreaked havoc in the countryside by killing farmers' cattle. The king's spies confirmed their misdeeds and the astrologer advised the king to kill the children. However, the queen wept bitterly and refused to allow this, so the king and queen decided to abandon the twins in the Panchavan Forest near Nagar Kovil.

The people of Pazhakanallur village, who lived near the forest, suffered greatly at the hands of the demon children. The village owners sought the help of a black magician, who managed to conquer Neelan but failed to subdue Neeli. In retaliation, Neeli killed the black magician and threatened to do the same to the 70 village owners.

Years passed, the priest (neeli’s husband) who had killed Alli was reborn as a man named Anandan. He embarked on a journey and crossed paths with Neeli. Anandan, unaware of his past life as the priest who murdered Alli, was going about his business when Neeli finally caught up with him. She approached him in disguise, tempting him with her beauty and charm. But Anandan, aware of her true identity, refused her advances. Enraged, Neeli revealed herself as the powerful spirit that she was and prepared to attack Anandan. Anandan, however, was not an easy target. He defended himself with his magical stick, but Neeli was relentless. The magical stick was got from his guru during his gurukulam practice.

The battle between the two was fierce and lasted for hours, but in the end, Neeli emerged as the victor.

Anandan, badly wounded and at Neeli's mercy, begged for his life. But Neeli was not one to show mercy to those who had wronged her in the past. With a sadistic smile on her face, she approached Anandan and slowly began to squeeze the life out of him. Anandan's screams echoed throughout the forest as he was killed in a most dreadful way by the hands of the powerful Kalliyankattu Neeli.

And with that, Neeli's thirst for revenge was finally quenched. She left Anandan's lifeless body in the forest and disappeared into the night, her legend spreading far and wide. The people of Pazhakanallur lived in fear of the powerful spirit, knowing that she was not to be trifled with. And so, the story of Kalliyankattu Neeli and her quest for revenge became a legend that was passed down from generation to generation.
