The Magician's curse
The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window. That was the story that had been passed on from campsite to campsite. Growing up I never thought the story was real, I never thought that my friends and I would actually find the famous/infamous abandoned cabin in the wooods. But alas here we are, and my best friend just dared me the quiet shy one to go in the house and spend the night. Normally I wouldnt even think about saying No! But staring up at the old dilapdated, cabin in the woods with the candle burning in the top floor window made me hesitate. As much as I hated to admit it, I was curious about why the candle was lit, and as was even a little curious about who or rather what was lighting it. "Come on don't be a chicken!" my best friend teased. I gulped and clucked like a chicken in my head. "Come on just do it, its not really haunted everyone knows that." my other friend added. "Then why is there a candle?" I snapped. "That's what you're going to find out. Now go." my bests friend pushed my back towards the splintered cracking stairs. With each creaky step I felt my heart beating faster and faster. "Don't die we'll see you in the morning." my best friend smiled waving and walking off with our other friends. I gulped and slowly raised my shaking hands towards the doorknob. I prayed it would be locked and I could go home. But no such luck, when I turned the knob it opened. I took a deep breath and walked in. The door slammed shut behind me making me jump. I shook my head and grabbed my flashlight out of my backpack. The inside of the cabin looked just as bad as the outside, the wallpaper on the walls were peeling off, the floorboards were creaky and even some were coming up, the furniture was so old you could smell the moth balls all the way from the doorway. I heard rocking I started walking towards the sound before I even realized what I was doing. What was I thinking? I wasnt thinking thats what I was thinking. I slowly walked up to the rocking chair as it slowly creaked back and fourth back and fourth, with no one sitting in it. Holding a breath a turned the chair around and breathed a sigh of reilf seeing only a ventriloquist dummy sitting in the chair. It had a creepy red painted permant smile, lifeless black eyes, and chipped painted on black hair with red spatters on it. I was praying the red wasn't what I thought it was. The dummy was wearing a black suit and loafers, the tie also had tiny specks of red on it. "I guess you couldnt have made the chair rock back and fourth huh?" I laughed rocking the chair. Of course the dummy didnt respond. I heard a mouse squeak and smiled knowing surely it was the mouse making the rocking chair rock back and fourth. I turned away from the ventriloquist dummy and kept walking. I heard footsteps behind me, I gasped and slowly turned around. Like every horror movie of course I saw nothing, ecpect an empty rocking chair. Wait. Wait! An empty rocking chair! Was I going crazy with fear or wasnt there just a ventriloquist dummy sitting there? I ran back over to the rocking chair to check to see if maybe the dummy had fallen. But nothing. I gulped and tried to calm my nerves. Out of the corner of my eye I saw the candles light from the top floor. I took a deep breath and started up the stairs. Arriving at the top step I tripped and fell flat on my face. I prayed nothing was broken or sprained. Standing up I didnt feel any pain so I breathed a sigh of reilf. I looked back to see what I tripped over and realized it was a who rather. It was another ventriloquist dummy, this time a girl one. She had matted and tangled straw blonde hair, teeth that looked so real, a cracked tan face, one right green eye, the left eye was gone the only thing left was an empty cracked socket. She was wearing a purple sequin dress, and black heels. I suddenly felt like a small tiny hand was around my ankle. I gasped and looked back but the feeling was gone and the dummy was lifeless. I shook the feeling off and kept walking. I noticed a picture on the wall I shone my flashight on it. The picture was of a famous magician in the 1920's named Mangus the Magnificent he used ventriloquist dummies in his act, his most famous ones were Mr. Nibs and Sparkles. One day when a trick went wrong he died on stage, apparently before he died he vowed that he would come back. Some even say his dummies were haunted. I gulped notcing the two dummies they were the two dummies I had seen. The male down in the rocking chair, was Mr, Nibs and the female was Sparkles. Before I ran straight for the hills I knew I least had to go into the room with the candle. I turned my flashlight with my shaking hands and walked towards the room with the candle. Arriving at the black door I noticed the paint on it looked almost new even wet. I turned the knob and walked in. There it was in the window the candle, but that wasnt the only thing. I gulped seeing at least thirty ventriloquist dummies sitting around the skelton of none other then Magnus the Magnificent. I jumped and cursed hearning the door slam behind me. "Wow I'm impressed no one's made it this far in a long time." a high pitch but sinster voice said from behind me. I turned around and gasped seeing Mr. Nibs and Sparkles. "I guess the candle worked, spreading that stupid story around was a good idea." Sparkles giggled in her high pitch Brooklyn accent. "You, you, you guys started the story?" I asked in a shaky voice. "Wow it speaks too! Yeah how else are we going to revive our master?" Mr. Nibs shrugged snapping his fingers. I screamed feeling tiny wooden hands grabbing me everywhere. I fought the ventriloquist dummies with all my might. I was plopped down onto a chair next to Magnus, my mouth was gagged and I was hooked up with iv's to a strange machine. Magnus' skelton was also hooked up. "Now here's what's gonna happen babe. You and our master are gonna switch places, in layman's terms our master is going to enter your body, and your gonna well die." Mr. Nibs smiled his creepy smile. I screamed through my gag. "Don't worry it'll only hurt a lot!" Mr. Nibs laughed and chills ran through my body. No! No! I was not dying tonight! I thought. I stood up and with all my might yanked the iv's out of my arms, and legs and ripped the gag off. I kicked the dummies into walls, desks, even Mangus himself, anywhere and anything I could just to get out of here. I cursed feeling a pain in my ankle I looked down and saw Sparkles biting me. I flung her off and she flew into the wall. I ran as fast as I could down the stairs, more dummies blocked my path. I saw a loose floorboard and ripped it out. Using it like a bat I cleared the path to the door. I ran outside and starting running towards my campsite. My friends laughing interrupted my scary story around the campfire. "There is no way that really happened!" my best friend said. "I thought that scar was from your little brother." my other friend said. I just smiled and shook my head. "But still it was a good story." my best friend shrugged. "Thanks." I smiled. "Well who's ready for bed?" I shrugged. Once the fire was out we all settled into our tents. After reading for a few hours I turned my lantern off, and closed my eyes for bed. My eyes shot open feeling a small wooden hand cover my mouth. "Did you really think you could get away that easily?" Mr. Nibs asked.
