The Hospital Doppleganger

Daily Horror Story #1

In late 2016 a woman named Mary was working as an emergency room technician. She was in charge of helping patients breathe as a respiratory therapist. She would go through the hospital and assist patients that needed help breathing on their own. She would attach a machine to them that assisted in breathing as they were wheeled to another floor. One seemingly normal day she was doing just that. She was with a few other doctors and nurses as they wheeled a patient towards the large freight elevator. She hit the button and waited for the doors to open. One second, two seconds, the door stayed still. Finally it opened and she began to wheel the patient inside. A slight chill caught her attention but she rubbed it off. She pushed the patient into the freight elevator and squished in with everyone else.

As the doors began to close she saw a bunch of other people going into a smaller side elevator. Her eyes went to a person in the back. One that looked exactly like her. It was her. Confused, she strained her neck to see who the look alike was as the door closed. She lost sight of the person as the door shut and she went up to the second floor. Why was someone who looked just like her in the hospital? Was she going crazy? Was she so tired that she was seeing things? Shaking it off she tried to focus on the task at hand. She had a patient to deal with after all. As the day went on she began to forget about the strange experience as her work piled up. After several more hours she was finally done. Tired and ready to go home she made her way though the hallway and to the side elevator that would take her outside. She pushed the button for the elevator and waited. Finally it came as a group of workers joined her in the hallway. When the doors opened she shuffled on in. As she turned around she saw another group of people with a patient going onto the freight elevator. Her eye caught someone in the back that once again looked just like her. She watched as the other her noticed her and began to lean in as the doors closed. It was her from the past doing the exact same thing she had done earlier! She tried to rationalize what was going on.

Was she staring backwards and forwards through time? Were the constant opening and closing of elevator doors in the hospital somehow creating a wormhole that allowed her to look through time? She had said nothing to any of her coworkers, and the weird part was that not a single person in the freight or passenger side elevator notice two of her. Which meant that she was the only one that could see herself. Though a little tired, she wasn’t on medication or at the point where she was hallucinating things. Both times the person she saw was clear as day right in front of her. If she told anyone they would just laugh at her. Being in the medical field requires a certain mindset and behavior. Rational and logical thought was demanded from people in her profession. After work, she went to her car shaken and full of questions. What exactly has transpired at two different times during the day? She couldn’t figure it out. The next day at work was normal and she never saw herself again. Though every time she steps into an elevator she always gives a little peek into the crowd of people around her.
