The sun had long set and the moon had risen high in the sky, casting a soft glow over the small, quiet town of Millbrook. It was a peaceful place, surrounded by lush forests and rolling hills, with a population of just over 500 people. But tonight, something was different. Tonight, something was lurking in the darkness.

Sarah and her friends had heard the rumors, of course. The stories about the old, abandoned mansion at the edge of town. The one that had been empty for decades, but was said to be haunted by the ghosts of its former residents. They had always dismissed the stories as nothing more than the fanciful imaginings of the town's more superstitious residents. But tonight, they were feeling adventurous. They wanted to explore the mansion, to see if there was any truth to the rumors.

The group of four made their way through the woods, their flashlights casting eerie shadows on the trees around them. As they approached the mansion, they could feel a chill in the air. The old, dilapidated building loomed in front of them, its windows boarded up and its walls covered in vines. It was a menacing sight, but they were determined to go inside.

The front door was locked, but after a bit of searching, they found a way in through a broken window. Inside, the air was musty and stale, and the only sound was the creaking of the floorboards beneath their feet. They made their way through the darkened rooms, their flashlights illuminating piles of debris and old furniture. There was a sense of unease that hung over them, but they tried to shake it off and continue their exploration.

As they made their way up the stairs to the second floor, they heard a faint whispering sound. It was almost like someone was talking, but the words were indistinct. They froze, looking at each other in alarm. Was someone else in the mansion with them?

They cautiously continued up the stairs, the whispering growing louder with each step. It was coming from a room at the end of the hallway. As they approached, they could see a faint glow coming from beneath the door. They pushed it open, and what they saw inside made them scream.

There, in the center of the room, was a figure draped in a white shroud. Its eyes glowed red in the darkness, and its bony fingers clutched a rusty knife. Sarah and her friends were paralyzed with fear as the figure slowly rose from its seated position. It began to speak, its voice a low, guttural growl.

"I have been waiting for you," it said. "Waiting for you to join me in eternal slumber."

Sarah and her friends tried to run, but the figure moved faster than they could have imagined. It pursued them through the darkened halls, its voice growing louder and more menacing with each passing moment. They were trapped, with no way out.

As they cowered in a corner, the figure slowly approached them. It reached out a skeletal hand and touched Sarah's forehead, and she felt a wave of cold wash over her. She could hear the figure's voice in her mind, a voice that promised eternal peace and rest.

"Join me," it said. "Join me in the darkness."

Sarah closed her eyes, and for a moment, she was tempted. The world outside the mansion seemed so far away, so insignificant. But then, she remembered her friends, and the fear and panic she had seen in their eyes. She opened her eyes again, and stared defiantly at the figure.

"No," she said, her voice shaking but determined. "I won't join you."

The figure growled, and for a moment, Sarah thought it was going
