From abandoned churches to haunted asylums, these places are not for people who have a heart condition or something similar to it. Scary places are just one out of many paranormal phenomena as there are historical events that nobody talks about or mysteries. Moreover, more information regarding haunted places is found in mysterioushearland.com.

Fear can come from all shapes and sizes, and can also come in different forms, here are the top picks when it comes to the scariest places on earth that you should probably never go to, as some of these places are a one-way trip.

Akodessewa Fetish Market, Togo

The Akodessewa, which is found in the capital of Lome, is where the world's biggest market for Voodoo is located. Just imagine that you're innocently traveling to the place and suddenly come across a stall full of skulls from either humans or animals. As the locals have told, Benin is the original birthplace of the voodoo religion, not Haiti or New Orleans.

The Hills Of Crosses, Lithuania

Somewhere in Lithuania, there is a particular place that is filled with crosses, and a few scattered all around is not as freaky as it seems, however, hundreds of them piling up on top of the other is another story. The place earned its name The Hill Of Crosses because it's filled with crosses, rosaries, crucifixes, and carvings after the uprising of 1831.

Veijo Rönkkönen

In the world today, sculptures are something carved from an artistic mind; however, the sculptures found in Veijo Rönkkönen is something taken out from a horror film. The place was named after the artist who created the sculptures that scattered across more than 500 hectares in the forest, and you can't simply walk by without feeling like you're being watched.

Sedlec Ossuary, Kutná Hora, Czech Republic

Either from a movie or a story that was passed down around the campfire, one of the best spooky tales ever told was the infamous Church Of Bones. The place is real and its located in the Czech Republic, the freaky thing is that the bones are not piled up in a single area, they are scattered across the church when a man used real bones to design it back in 1870.

Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum, West Virginia

The asylum was previously used as a place for mentally ill residents to stay dating back in the 1800s. The lunatic asylum is now abandoned and had become a tourist attraction for the last couple of years, in which it turns out to be a good spot for tourists to visit if they want to feel the spirit of Halloween, which is why it's open from March until November each year.

La Recoleta Cemetery, Argentina

Cemeteries are common in every corner of the globe as it provides a final resting place for those who've already departed. Some cemeteries are beautiful; however, the La Recoleta Cemetery found in Argentina is so intensely haunted that the city's tourism website endorses the place as such.

The cemetery is dubbed as Neo-Gothic by the tourism committee; moreover, as you stroll through the cemetery, you would encounter over 6,000 statues, mausoleums, gravestones, and coffins. From time to time, people would hear dangling keys, but they say it's only the gravedigger; however, he died a few years ago, which makes it more haunting.

Nagoro, Japan

Japan is known to be one of the leading countries when it comes to technological innovations; however, there is a particular place in Japan that has an eerie vibe to it. A village in Nagoro consists of almost 30 residents only; however, the people started placing dolls randomly within the village to cope with the loneliness.

However, the residents don't just place those dolls randomly as they purposely created those dolls as a counterpart from someone deceased. The freaky thing about it is that they resemble the deceased to the point that the clothes the dolls put on is from its counterpart's actual belongings.

Mansfield Reformatory, Ohio

Ever heard of the film The Shawshank Redemption, where they shot a scene from a spooky prison? It's real, and it's located in Ohio, which is called the Mansfield Reformatory. Legends say that the place is seriously haunted as numerous inmates in that prison either got killed or died within the vicinity.

The Island Of The Dolls, Mexico

People would think that traveling to Mexico would be a great idea as you could witness different cultures and experiences, as well as travel to the islands near to it. However, there's one particular island that would bring chills to your spine as you walk through it with hundreds of dead-looking dolls staring at you all the way.

In Spanish, the island found in the south of Mexico City is called Isla de las Muñecas. While the island is vastly populated, it's overall deserted except for the hundreds of dolls hanging from the trees. Locals have said that the dolls are possessed by spirits in which the eyes would move on their own as they follow you when you walk through.

Hashima Island, Japan

Aside from Nagoro, there's another place in Japan that is seriously haunted that the locals forbid other people from visiting the area. Hashima Island flourished once with its land rich in coal; however, it slowly became deserted as the island is now filled with spirits and souls.

Due to the locals forbidding human intervention of the island, some adrenaline-seekers dared to visit the place and ended up regretting their decision. In every corner of the island lies numerous buildings that were once a residential area, and you would hear murmurs and random whispers even though there's no one else around.

Takeaway

The world is filled with spooky and freaky places, in which it takes the form of either an abandoned asylum, a haunted hospital, or a church that worships evil. But a strong warning is given when people try to explore such places as the first glimpse of them would make your heart skip a beat or would take your breath away; therefore, it's not for the faint of heart.
