Winnie the Pooh depicted in Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey

"Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey" is a long awaited horror movie where it takes Christopher Robin's friends and puts a twist. The story for the movie is about Christopher Robin having to leave Pooh, Piglet, Owl, and Rabbit, and Eeyore behind as he goes to college. Now of course he did not want to leave them, but some day we do need to grow up. Christopher Robin was seen as their source of love and source of food. As Christopher Robin leaves things take a turn for the worse once he returns 5 years later.

I want to not make this a spoiler review as the movie did have some great moments and story. For a budget of only less than $100,000, but making $1.8 million in the box office says a lot about what this movie has to offer to horror fans. Now the movie does come off as a B-horror film with just a better quality. It has the shaky camera along with the music popping in at certain times once the duo are on screen. You heard me right duo. Pooh and Piglet are the villianous stars of the movie. We do not really see Owl and Rabbit as they are only mentioned in the beginning of the movie. While the music is great for the times it does play, I do wish the story delved more into what happened with Owl and Rabbit. You know what happens to Eeyore, but not really what happened to Owl and Rabbit. I am hoping the sequel will delve more into maybe seeing Owl and Rabbit make an appearance.

The story begins with us being introduced to an adult Christopher Robin and his fiancé, Mary. He wanted to introduce her to his long time friends that he had played with as a kid and instead comes to meet a grisly sight of the state they have turned into while he was away. Once his side of the story is told then the movie shifts into a different set of characters. We are introduced to four female characters. Maria, Jess, Alice, Zoe, and Lara as these college students stay at a cabin located in the 100 Acre Woods. Maria experiences a traumatic event and her therapist recommended her to get away for a while. I am not sure why her therapist would mention such a far away place as 100 Acre Woods, but it is a horror movie so we have to send our characters somewhere spooky. Another friend, Tina, is seen lost trying to find her way to the cabin. Once Pooh sees her than we get to the point of when the kills and gore start to begin to introduce that shift. It is really a case of these girls being at the wrong place.

For such a low budget movie, the practical effects were amazing. A lot of blood to go around in those scenes. Some scenes did make me turn away from the screen because it gave me a good reaction. The only bad thing about the movie was the acting from the girls. The acting either became bland or just some scenes fell flat making me lose interest in the movie. One scene for example, without trying to spoil the movie, was when the girls went to the pool to lock the door. Out of nowhere these two girls just say "I love you" and I was thinking to myself how is this really the best time to say that especially when it just really fell flat. It has some of these small stupid moments. The costume designs for Pooh and Piglet were creative. As shown in the picture at the top of the article. The idea to make them look human, but keep their feral instincts made them look weird. Piglet's face looked detailed and Pooh's face when he got mad was where the detail came in for his face. As I was watching the movie, I never realized Pooh is actually smiling the entire time. In one scene where he does get mad, his whole face just changes and I was surprised by what I saw on screen.

To end it all off, I want the movie to get a sequel. I know many people may not like horror movies like these and criticize these low budget movies. I have seen many horror movies that have a high budget, but the movies are not even all that interesting. Again a big hope of being able to see Owl and Rabbit make an appearance. Maybe they can introduce some more characters from the story. We could probably even get more detail into why Pooh does kill people and what he has in store for Christopher Robin. I believe things will be answered when the time and sequel becomes available worldwide.
