Hired Hearts
“Portia!” I cry, tripping over myself as I run towards the burning building. Did she make it out? Is she still alive? The last time she saw me was looking up at me in fear and disgust from the ground of the parking lot this morning. I have to find her.

smiles all around
Warning: mentions of blood Smiles all around as I sliced the cakes accordingly, this was a peaceful moment. Back into the dining room, I sat with three most important people in my life , all of us gathered at last- they deserved to be saved from their lives of torture of work. The night started of as laughter, food and reminiscing of past events and memories coating my brain with a sense of nostalgia and belonging. My light-coloured hair had been curled to perfection, my lips painted red showcasing my sparkling , innocent smile and my dress hugged my body tightly which caught the attention of John as I served up the meals. His lustful gaze flicked across my body repeatedly throughout the night, at least I had him hooked since the night began - it would make him more easy to surprise. During the meals, that sense of belonging soon changed to anger as Cassie recalled on a group memory of the previous night at the cinema...which I wasn't there for. I had been neglected once again. The familiar fearful feeling of anxiety and jealousy ignited in my stomach as I clenched my nails into the palm of my hand- but those marks can't ever be as permanent as the ever growing feeling of not belonging. Continuing their conversation, I excused myself to the kitchen to gather the cake and plates:

routine.
Over a twenty-four hour benchmark past now, that I've been unconscious. The clock ticked in its own incomprehensible pace; a pace I’d gotten used to. Waking up to a differently wired time of reality my body wasn’t too on par with…had I had too much to drink? Possibly. My head felt heavy and fixated on the bones I was sure I cracked rocking to the sermons at my funeral…funeral?

Into the Unknown
I remember the day so vividly, it brings back so much anger and hurt. My Father had been cooped up in bed, suffering from a serious illness, with no one other than me to try and ease the pain. I was by his side constantly, every beck and call was answered with immediacy - the thought that if I didn't do all he asked would only make me think that he would die thanks to me, so I had to be vigilant.

Bobo the Clown
The clown business sure isn't what it used to be, thought Bobo taking the last drag off his cigarette before throwing it out the window of his all but broken-down Volkswagen Bug. You're gonna be a fuckin' star you know that? he said looking at his reflection in the rear-view mirror. He adjusted his big red nose and dirty bow tie, turning his face side to side. His caked-on makeup was already beginning to run down onto his clothes. Bobo wiped it on his hand, the white paint smearing on his dry cracked skin. The clown gave a wide smile full of crooked yellow teeth and picked a bit of who knows what out before putting on his stained gloves and leaning into the door to open it. One more for good luck! he reached over to the floor of the passenger side, rummaging through some trash, picking up a bottle and holding it up - Empty! he cursed as he threw it over his shoulder into the backseat. The clang of glass hitting glass echoed in the small car. He eventually found what he was looking for, a grime covered bottle of gin, A little bit of liquid courage! He picked off some hair, spun the cap off and drank deeply, Gulp... Gulp...Gulp... ahhhh that's the stuff! Woo! These kids aren't ready for you Bobo! Nobody can do what you do! it was his usual pump up speech. He leaned back over to the door and with a hard push and a loud creek it swung open and Bobo fell out of the car and onto the street, towards his next gig.
