A part of me always gets excited when a favorite franchise of mine, be it horror or otherwise, is coming back in some way. Even if it's a reboot. Whether I end up watching it or not is another story. It's no secret that slasher franchises never die in way or another.

What Does the Success of David Gordon-Green’s Halloween Mean for Horror?
Horror has had a rather surprising but respectable return to the highs of the box office in recent years, both commercially and critically. 2017’s Get Out was met with universal acclaim, winning Best Original Screenplay at the 2018 Oscars for its smart, thought-provoking and thrilling debut direction from Jordan Peele; whilst 2018’s A Quiet Place stunned audiences with an overwhelming atmosphere of suspense through its original story of an oh-so-quiet supernatural horror flick. Even the stories of The Conjuring and Annabelle have genuine moments of exquisite horrifying moments—exciting enough to keep audiences coming back, and scary enough for production company Blumhouse to create an interwoven universe between the two franchises (Annabelle 3 and The Conjuring 3 are both set for a 2019/2020 release). With multiple horror triumphs under Blumhouse’s belt that keep smashing the box-office (including Sinister, The Purge, Insidious), Blumhouse took another stab in the dark in October, with the release of Halloween—a direct continual sequel to John Carpenter’s original slasher way back in 1978. With the film’s honour to Carpenter’s original cinematic vision and the return of Michael Myers scarier than he’s ever been before, the film has become the highest grossing slasher film of all time, raking in a whopping $126 million from its $10 million budget since the worldwide release on October 19th. With audiences and critics alike praising the film for its return to form for the tired franchise of Halloween, surely this means the movies of the slasher genre are well and truly back from the dead?

This is a Halloween story ... a true story that took place on Halloween night. None of us were ever able to explain what happened that night. I can only assume that it was karma.
Halloween Fever
Alright, we all know someone who takes Halloween way too seriously—always planning for the next year as soon as all the candy’s gone, getting way too into the costumes, and never taking no for an answer to friends who don’t want to participate. Well, buckle up and hold onto your witch broom, because I’m one of them.

Halloween has been around since ancient times. It all started with an ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, a celebration in which people would light large bonfires and wear an array of costumes to scare off ghosts and evil spirits. This festival marked the end of harvest season and the beginning of winter or "The Darker Half" of the year. This celebration usually went on from the October 21 till November 1. There were many festivals held like this one around Scotland at the time, some being even older than the Celtic festival of Samhain itself.

Ahh Halloween, the one holiday where we go against what our parents teach us and take candy from strangers in the middle of the night. But most importantly, you get to dress up in silly costumes, and no one can judge you. I personally had quite the fun costumes. I was Snow White, homemade Super Why made with green swim goggles, and a witch three years in a row. Then I was a vampire, Katniss Everdeen, and some biker chick from a Disney movie. I also wore an all black angel outfit and went as a fallen angel. Then I was a zombie bride and finally, last year and this year I’m going as a unicorn. It’s the best costume because I literally get to wear a onesie all night. So as you can see, I had quite the collection of Halloween costumes.
