Metamorphosis
The mirror showed a reflection that wasn’t my own. I noticed my hair was changing colors from its usual dark brown to a gorgeous crimson red. Streaks flowed down from the roots all the way to end. Almost half of all my hair turned red and the rest was slowly changing. My baby blue eyes had already become a sharp viridian green. A subtle sweetness filled the air in the room. It appeared seemingly out of nowhere, as if coming from the mirror itself. Perhaps my mind is still out of shape from last nights festivities. The drinking pains still lingering in my stomach. Very close to a hangover but somehow I staved it off. I thought it was that, but after a minute of close examination I realized it was quite real. A strange vibe could be felt everywhere; as if someone was watching me. I hated the feeling and the cold air made it worse. I quickly grabbed my velvet blanket, wrapped it around me and headed downstairs for the thermostat. It was time now anyway. Most of the day was slept away.

RIPPLES IN TIME
The mirror showed a reflection that wasn't my own. And it appeared to be a clone of me, standing in front of the fireplace. But when I looked directly at the fireplace, from my position on the bed, no one was there. When viewing the reflection in the mirror, I assumed the clone-like vision was a hallucination, but it continued to stare back at me. What I was experiencing was causing feelings within my being that I cannot adequately describe, but terrified comes close.

Antique Mirror
The mirror showed a reflection that wasn't my own. It had my height and build, but it wasn’t me. On the other side, I saw black claws protruding from my fingers. The lower half of my legs were bent at odd angles and resembled the hind paws of a wolf. And my face…it wasn’t there. A gloomy shadow covered the entire head. Two small white eyes were the only things that could be seen. I don’t know how long we stood staring at each other. Even if it was a few seconds, it felt like an hour. The figure looked like it was breathing heavily from the way its slightly hunched shoulders moved up and down. I glanced around the mirror and noticed we stood at the end of a hallway. Behind me, I saw an endless row of doors on either side. How did I get here?

Snaggletooth
The mirror showed a reflection that wasn’t my own. I called her Snaggletooth. She scared me at first. What twelve year old wouldn’t scream at some evil spirit with a bloody, jagged smile from ear to ear staring back through a dinged, silver hand mirror?

The Piano Lesson
[Please play the following video while reading The Piano Lesson.] The mirror showed a reflection that wasn't my own. Everything else looked the same. Miss Carmen’s walnut brown console piano sat there in its worn, weathered glory. Miss Carmen herself stood behind me, her familiar glare focused on the fingers of my right hand. That hand sat on the keyboard, frozen in the middle of a D major scale, middle finger perched uncertainly on the F natural I’d just played.
