Superman's Ghost Haunts House

George Reeves may have died, but he has never left the house he passed away in.

Do you believe in ghosts? It's a question that people often ask with an incredulousness usually reserved for a toddler who doesn't obey their parent. True believers tell tales of ghosts that they have encountered and what it was like when the spirit presented themselves to the believer, yet skeptics will not change their mind. Until they are confronted with a spirit themselves, like tenants who have lived in George Reeves's old home in Los Angeles.

A refresher for those that haven't read "The Mysterious Death of Superman." In 1959, Reeves was found naked and dead in his LA home. Three bullets were fired, only one entered Reeves's body. Two of the bullets were in the floor, one ended up in the ceiling. The police initially ruled it a suicide, but rumors have abounded that the former Superman had been killed. Further fueling those theories is the story that his former mistress, Toni Mannix, confessed to a Priest that she had killed him before she died. This has led to stories of Reeves haunting his house, the place where he died.

One couple says that when they moved into the house, there was nothing unusual about it. It was a quaint house, that was part of Hollywood history, at an affordable price. Things were great for a while until one night, they heard gunshots and the smell of gun powder. After they investigated, they found nothing. It daunted them. This repeated for several nights until they decided to leave the house altogether.

Leaving the house after mysterious incidents is a common theme with these stories of Reeves haunting his former home. Another couple reports that Reeves would appear to them in his Superman costume and point towards the ceiling. Upon looking into the matter, they discovered that he was pointing at the spot where the bullet that killed him had lodged itself. Freaked out doesn't begin to describe how these people felt. Once again they were driven away from the home.

Some have reported that they would clean up the room, where Reeves was killed, only to come back and find it in disarray again. Moreover, pets seem to pick up on the presence of something supernatural happening in the house. Cats will gravitate towards the room, and sit near the spot where Reeves body was found. All of this tends to add up to a very short stay for a couple.

A newlywed couple bought the house, moved in, and saw an apparition of Reeves in the nude (the same way he was when he died); the ghost groaned in agony. Some reports claim that Reeves was asking for the couple to help him, but others say he was just trying to scare them away. The situation, allegedly, freaked out the couple so much that they went to a hotel for the night and moved out the very next day.

Many believe that Reeves is still in the house because he doesn't want anyone else to live there. He haunts it and will continue to do so until a worthy family moves in. Or until someone finally figures out who killed him. Though the latter seems to be next to impossible at this point since all of the major players in the story have long since passed on to the next world.

Given the heavily haunted house of George Reeves, there should be no question that ghosts exist. There is an expectation that his spirit is in unrest because justice was never brought to the person who ended his life early. That is proof enough that ghosts exist, and helps bolster the argument for people who believe.
