This is the last installment for now of this series. I have some other posts I am working on so they should be coming soon, so stay tuned. I want to be able to try to do the investigations before I do too many research posts. Like always I will be telling you a little bit about this location and the history then I will tell you about why it's haunted and what is said to happen there.

For those not familiar with Georgia Kennesaw is a town northwest of Atlanta. It was a part of the civil war like many cities in Georgia. Cherokee ancestors have been in the Georgia Area since before 1000 BC, their territory was in north Georgia. They left Georgia during the trail of tears. After the Cherokees left and prior to the civil war there were 5 classes of people: merchants, large scale farmers, yeomen/small scale farmers, free blacks, and enslaved blacks.

There was a series of battles known as the Atlanta campaign in the civil war. The Atlanta campaign was the idea of Ulysses S. Grant and Maj. Gen. William T. Sherman. In march of 1864 Grant was promoted to lieutenant general and named general in chief of the Union Army. Sherman had at least 100,000 men in his company. The battles included in the campaign were Rocky Face Ridge (May 8-9, 1864), Resaca (May 14, 1864), New Hope Church (May 25, 1864), Pickett's Mill (May 27, 1864), Dallas (May 28, 1864), Kennesaw Mountain (June 27, 1864), Atlanta (July 22, 1864) and Jonesboro (August 31 - Sept. 1, 1864). There was about 4,000 casualties in the battle of Kennesaw. Atlanta was a critical target. It was intersection of four important railroad lines. They say that the soldiers marching through this area killed some of the grass leaving spots of exposed clay. In the years since the civil war there were a lot of farms in the area. In the current time it is a national park. It still has cannons here and nature trails.

So why would the mountain be haunted? The main reason is the battle of Kennesaw. There were a lot of causalities in the battle. Also with people living there prior to the war there could have been tragedies in the area. Some slaves living in the area could have been treated badly or killed. Land holds memories just like buildings. If someone gets hurt or killed on a piece of land their soul or spirit could be attached to the place they were hurt or killed.

Now to what is said to happen. Ghosts of the soldiers walk the grounds. People have also said that they hear gunshots and cannons. Ghost deer are also said to run towards the witnesses then disappear when they get close. The smell of blood and gunpowder are also reported by visitors to the area. Smells are interesting when it comes to haunted places because a lot of people will try to find another source for the scent. People will try to rationalize a lot away before they will believe in the paranormal.

What do I hope to find here? I hope to find proof of spirits here. If someone comes with me I hope to prove to them that there is paranormal stuff around. I would like to see if any of these locations are haunted.

I hope you enjoyed this post and I hope to get to go to this area soon to do a paranormal investigation. Tell me where I should investigate next by emailing me ([email protected]) tell me what you know about that location and I may do research.
