My Review by Brian Salkowski In 1978, Stephen King, the author of ''Carrie'' and ''The Shining,'' published ''The Stand'' and almost immediately added thousands of new readers to his already huge following. At that time, Mr. King's publishers thought the book would be better and certainly more salable if it were cut - in fact, cut by 500 pages, nearly half of its original length. Now the novel has been reissued with the missing 150,000 words reinstated, plus a preface by the author and 12 black-and-white illustrations by Bernie Wrightson.

Crack! A wave of heat, followed by a sensation that can only be described as ecstasy, courses through his veins as the woman’s body goes limp beneath him. His hands, loosen as he soaks it in. Took him longer than expected but her neck did eventually break. More of a fighter than anticipated. Not an unwelcome surprise. After all, Part of the excitement came from the struggle. After a moment of sadistic basking, he stands and blows her a kiss as he does so. Takes a few steps back towards his truck and grabs an old dirty shirt from the glove box. Reaches down and wipes the Ejaculate from his groin and tosses the shirt into the passenger seat. Zips his pants and lights a cigarette. As he does he hears a rustle in the distance. He squints as he scans the area, the dark forest looks like dancing black spears as the clouds part ways, clearing a path for the light of the full moon. Being the killer he is, the dark doesn’t frighten him. He shrugs it off, turns back to the body, throws it over his shoulder and tosses it in the bed with a hard thud. He’s much too close to the road to leave the body where it was.
