Lost Indeed
The pungent smell of old beer, wine, soda and milk filled her nostrils. The clatter and jingle of bottles and cans filled her ears. She watched as the tiny lady in the mask and the gloves pulled the slimy containers towards her with awkward hands, tossing them into bins and punching numbers into the calculator, the screen above her reading out each precious penny.

The Loneliest Girl
Maya ran her pointer finger over the worn creases of the letter on her lap. Though she had opened her mailbox to find the letter less than a month ago, she had folded and unfolded the piece of paper so many times it now appeared fragile and antique.

A Witch’s Notebook
Delivering food as a side hustle is a family affair. It begins with wrangling our astonishingly fast and agile toddler. Her bouncing blond curls flew in the wind while eluding the grasp of mom, then dad. She laughed obnoxiously at our feeble attempts to catch her, and, with a look of fierce determination, took another lap through the house. This time, dad was hidden behind the couch and snatched her, while they both giggled uncontrollably. He asked her the magic words.

Little Black Notebook
The cold was excruciatingly numbing my nose, my scarf could not cover my neck and my face at the same time. I tried to ignore the cold because I was making my way to the bookstore. The sound of the small grocery store in the middle of the street and a variety of restaurants surrounding the block, the park to the right of me was empty, nobody really likes being out and about when the cold is nipping at their nose.

One hundred and sixty-eight hours
What would you do if you had seven days to save not only yourself but a room full of people you didn’t even know? Would you fight your hardest for them or yourself? It is rather easy to answer my question because to you they are simply hypothetical. However, to exactly ten people it was our harsh reality. None of us chose to have any part in what occurred during those days. We were forcefully entangled into a mess, with little to no choice on getting out.

The Box
The funeral had been exhausting but was over. Gerald Calloway Jr. had sat by his mother pretending not to care, as people all around had given him “the look”. The look of a son that had been gone for years, only to return to see what his inheritance would be.

The 3 Mates
The day started normal in the Bloodmoon pack, Addy helped her mother cook breakfast for the pack from the eggs and fruit her brothers gathered. They had a feast made up of egg salad, fried eggs, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, fresh fruit and biscuits with fresh pressed orange juice and apple juice. The squeals and laughter of children rang through the dining hall as they giggled and played around in the toy kitchen after finishing their food.

The Shifting Tales of the Little Black Book
The Little Black Book was the name of the inn where my father died. He was traveling around the villages and had heard tales of a strange inn where the passerby would avoid but a vast fortune was rumored to be on display. Travelers like him had no choice but to stay in whatever accommodations were available nearby, and the Little Black Book was the only inn around for miles.

Curse of the Black Book
Gift or Curse? Often times, the line that divides these two extremes can be blurred to nonexistence. A gift can be a wondrous thing, one’s genes can be a gift, the friends we make across a lifetime are a gift and of course, how people use these gifts matters the most. Yet, those very gifts can sour turning them into curses. So, the question remains, gift or curse? This question plagued Jason’s mind since he opened his mailbox to find a rather unimpressive black notebook bound to a letter. Upon opening the letter, a strange feeling came over him, the more he read the more his stomach contorted. The contents of the letter explained that $20,000 had been deposited into his account and that the funds were to be used however he wished. However, the letter stated one condition: Jason must never open the black notebook.
