Absconded Sanity
In her hands, there was a little black book. It had scars etched into its cover. The corners were worn. Its pages were unruly, yellow, and curled against each other as if in conflict. The woman could relate. She had been twisted out of shape by those pages. What this book had done might be quantifiable by some, but its full significance would not be known until both she and it had long since become dust.

Sam I Am
I sat in my den staring at that book, that little black book, for what seemed like days! I wanted to open it so bad but something in me kept telling me it was wasn't right! I kept wondering what it was, was it a journal, was it someone's conquests, or was it simply just a little black book with nothing written in it! I think I looked at the clock over a hundred times before I finally even read what it said on the front of the book. I remember it so vividly, "Sam's Book", that's it nothing more just "Sam's Book". Who was Sam I wondered? I couldn't take it anymore, so I opened it to the first page where within just the first few words my mouth dropped, and I was stuck!

Air
I awoke in a cold sweat, gasping for air. The sunlight filtering through the thin curtains, pulling me from the confines of my dream and cementing me to reality. I had hoped that purging myself of more than half my belongings and moving to a tiny house in the middle of nowhere could help me get some distance from the dreams. As if clearing my life would in turn clear my head and keep me from being tormented by my own mind. Unfortunately, it seemed almost like the dreams were getting worse…

Lindsay glanced at the clock on her bedside table and noticed it was 5:49 a.m. She was alone in bed, and the sheets on Mark's side were cold and unwrinkled. Curse in Disguise
First off, I want to start by saying that I loved my life. As pathetic it may have seemed from the outside, I was not sad nor depressed. To be clear, the decision I have made has nothing to do with me being selfish or not for the most part. It is the consequence of my actions. It is a shock for me how quickly my life turned upside down and lead to this. I’m sure most people will think I’m a selfish, self-centered coward who doesn’t consider others. Before you make your judgment, please hear my story. You must see that for me; this is the one and only.

Manifesting The Darkness
My fingers release the small black book as it smacks the white wall in front of me I fall to my knees. Warm tears stream down my face. " I don't want it any more please take it away." I scream hoping it will hear me and answers my plea as it did before. I feel a dark presence behind me. " You humans always wanting more this and more that this is why we don't help you anymore, you guys never know what you want." The presence takes form of a small women in an all black ball gown with scarlet colored lips and flushed pale skin.

Devil's Deal Delayed
There’s something reassuring about finding a body in a dark alley in the dead of night. Much the same way as one does not expect lightning to strike in the same place twice, the odds of being murdered in such close proximity to another recent murder were astronomically small. It helps that the space was familiar ground to me, having taken that particular shortcut home dozens of times since moving to New York. What I had found was that these isolated paths tucked between buildings were among the best in the world for both wheeling and dealing. The bright lights of the city streets made the darkness even more oppressive and the constant honking of irate taxi drivers all but guaranteed a safe space for crime, regardless of a target’s propensity for hysteria. While my sojourns through the area were never to hurt anyone - my crimes are purely of the white-collar variety these days - I can respect another professional’s ability to set the right stage for their art.

Resonance
"Auggie, Come on! Move your freaking legs! Now... Please!" Rae Mi all but shrieked through her tears. Panic was in higher supply than oxygen. August planted himself like the roots of some great and ancient tree into the sidewalk as soon as he and his sister emerged from the alley. The very topography of Rae Mi's flesh changed as she conjured thoughts of escaping the narrowing maw of a red throated behemoth. With her last bit of energy left she pulled August tightly to her chest. Tight enough so that she was certain it hurt her as much as it did the freshly uprooted, great and ancient five year old in her arms. The vehicles beyond the curb raced by at impossible speeds, but space was molasses. The HAT was now no more than twenty terrible yards from success. She could not allow them to be captured. Rae Mi battened her eyes shut and took ten desperate steps into traffic.

My Two Million Cents
“You need money in this world to survive. You need a place to call home.” Gus typed away on the blackened keyboard only partially taking in what the library technician was saying. He could take advantage of the free Wi-Fi but his tiny screen didn't work well with his gloved hands. They were full of holes and unfortunately the fingertips that did pop out were the wrong ones.

Little Black Book
There were few ways to make money in the cryptocurrency, AI-humanism time I’d happen to find consciousness in. Homeless and hungry I feverishly watched as a man in a good looking jacket get tortured down in the ally way. Beaten. Raped. I, being one of the remaining full humans left did not have this particular craving for demise and depravity. Society entering its “golden” technology age had split into three groups, humans, AI-human, and successful AI-human. They rip the coat off of him and I am thrilled it might be salvageable. There is nothing natural about artificial intelligence merging with the body, and while many managed seamlessly, this batch ahead of me had surely failed and had become void of any human emotion — at least that’s what the experts claimed after the first cases of FI’s (failed integrations) emerged. I stay ducked behind the dumpster, cloaked in the darkness and shielded by the rain. The rain was incessant, another “golden” techno age solution that evidently went wrong. I think they want it to be bleak, to be dark and depressing, it’s their way of picking off the rest of us full humans that haven’t integrated.

In this revamp of the 2003 fan favorite, original screenwriter Alan McElroy returns to tell an all-new story about a different group of twentysomethings (Charlotte Vega, Adain Bradley, Emma Dumont, Dylan McTee, Vardaan Arora, Adrien Favela) who venture into the Appalachian backwoods and encounter an independent tribal society deep in the forest.
