The Watchers
Dreams can be a fascinating concept. When we rest our heads down at night and close our eyes we can be taken to faraway lands, a twisted recreation of the office you work in, or sometimes the dreams can turn sour and you find yourself in what can only be described as the pits of hell. Some research says its subliminal interpretation of what's happening in our lives. We can face the turmoil of problems in a dream, or piece together our wildest hopes for reality. Sometimes our dreams can have friends and family in them, or even just someone you talked to at the bus stop the previous day.

Heart of Bronze
Athestan crested the hill and beheld the valley below him. A wide river meandering through it, bordered on both sides with hundreds of whitewash buildings. He could almost make out the town square even at this distance, where the sea of roofs separated into an open courtyard. On the far side of the river another hill rose, an impressive stone and timber keep perched atop it. The largest castle in the whole barony they said, and even from this distance it certainly seemed to live up to its reputation. The grand city of Karanth. 4 months ago it would have been an idyllic scene.

Under the Ominous Grey
I continue my endeavor down the streets of the town where I’d met my love so long ago. As I pass the store where I'd bought her heart-shaped locket, I begin to reflect upon the time before it happened, before the bombs were dropped. There was a time before it happened, right?

Infection
She grasped her mothers’ locket in her hand. Heart-shaped, and made of silver, it was the last physical memory she had of her mother. It contained a photo of her and her mother at the beach when she was 8. That was 4 years ago. Before the meteor had hit. Before the hunger and the thirst. Before just surviving became her way of life. It was a better time, a happy time. There had been no happy times for a while now.

Au revoir, my love
An ugly concrete cylinder rises above the smoggy clouds to hold up a pleasant restaurant called Le Towarette. One of the last standing bastions of the French Revolutionary Army in the year 2172, Le Towarette was a lookout point for enemy drones, aka “the dragon-birds”, named after an extinct feathered animal capable of flying. The design allowed a 360 degree view of the horizon. The laser cannons could hit dragon-birds 100 miles away. It displayed no double glazed windows back then, and it was operated by killer robots, hence its original name - The Tower of Death.

Locket in the Scry
Clematis petals sparkle as you turn them in your hands. Icy violet, amethyst, plum. Once, in a moment of soft boredom, I pulled the flower tightly over my thumb and twisted it in the light-the shimmer was a secret world revealed. The remembering of it is a kindness.

The Atrament Summons
My greatest regret is not destroying the accursed atrament wardrobe sooner, for the children’s sake, and my sanity. Having lost both parents, the piteous children came to live with me, their great uncle. Naturally I was remiss, having never fathered children myself. The only love of my life died ere I could propose to her. In bitterness, I swore off fanciful romanticism as childishness, whilst my immediate family produced children, who grew and produced children themselves. Two boys and two girls, to be exact.
