Malice
Turbulence caused the craft to shudder, waking Liam Gregory from his slumber. The airborne quake was as brief as it was violent. His nerves calming, the researcher ran a hand through his short black hair and rested his head against the wall so he could see out the shuttle window. Below them, he could see light from the planet’s sun glinting off the waves of an ocean. That light warmed his pale skin, helping him to relax a little more. Ahead, land rapidly approached. Liam could see the edge of a tree line just beyond the rocky shore. He knew from the dossier that this forest stretched for about twelve miles inland, though from his window seat it seemed only a short sliver of green running along the base of towering mountains. The mountains ran parallel to the shoreline like the spine of some gigantic stone creature.

Bloodlines - Part 4
It took me a while to really get up and do anything important, and the catalyst for the action was rather mundane: I got hungry. Being that I still had no food, and I had a laundry list of things that I still needed to go out and buy, getting ready for the day shot to the top of my to-do list. Half an hour after I got off my rear and decided to get ready, I was done – though I was beginning to have hunger pains. I hadn't eaten in over twelve hours, and my body was making it very clear that if I didn't get some food in my stomach, its next option was to begin digesting itself.

The Neighbours
He just wanted to stay in, but there was no choice. With a day off from school, Michael had to clear snow off the sidewalk, driveway and front steps before his stepfather came home. And he was done, but his mother noticed that their neighbours were very quiet that afternoon. No car leaving the house early that morning. No tire tracks or footprints in or out of the house. He looked over and sighed deeply.

Unfortunate Events of an Invasion
I’ve never been a fan of how dark it gets by 4 o’clock in the afternoon. That’s how the days have recently started to come out to. Strange, since it’s not wintertime anymore but the air still has a chill in it while the sky gets a highlighter yellow before it just completely goes dark.

Imagine
Today began just like any other day, my alarm went off at 7am I showered, brushed me teeth threw on my clothes with just enough time to spare to tell my mother good morning, steal my brothers bacon off his plate and run out the door to catch my bus. The bus ride wasn’t unusual I sat alone in the back, which is what I’ve always preferred I watched everyone laugh and joke and thought to myself ; what is everyone so happy about. I look down at my tattered clothes and my cheap sneakers and I wondered for a moment what it would be like to have such nice, new things. To be “ popular” but I let the thought pass as quickly as it came I just wasn’t like the other kids in my school and well I was perfectly happy being alone most of the time anyway. Besides I did have something none of the other girls had, my most prized possession, a beautiful gold heart shaped locket that my father gave me when I was just a young girl, inside a picture of the two of us. Whenever I felt alone I’d look inside and imagine what fun we’d have when I get to go see him in California this summer. Little did I know then. This was definitely not going to be like any other day. I get to my first period class without a minute to spare and mrs. Stewart is beginning with a recap of the weeks lesson in the ongoing war in Syria with one catch, pop quiz this morning. I’ve never been that good at tests I always get to anxious. I can already feel my palms begin to sweat. I excuse myself to go to the bathroom to try to calm my nerves. As I enter the restroom I’m relieved to find I’m alone. I turn on the faucet and begin to splash the cool water on my skin.

Food for thought
Food For Thought It was an unusually beautiful day when Max opened his unusually sprightly eyes. Sunlight, which slithered through the window at his bedside, sparked a scrubby piece of kindling within him long thought burned up. He hadn’t felt like exploring at all since he and his father had moved to the new province. In fact, Max hadn’t felt the urge to play outside in years – something his father said happens to everyone. That morning, however, Max dressed with a vigor that would carry him out the door, through the lush wooded area at the end of the estate and lead him to a small clearing surrounded by small bushes.

Eat or Be Eaten
I remember the good old days, when fewer people suffered. I was one of them. I was blessed to live in bliss, with a beautiful house and a great family. I lost my wife following the attempt at a fourth addition to our family. The two of us and four kids were always her dream, but the fourth one was the death of her. Her pregnancy triggered Leukemia, and they had to abort our baby. It was trying times for all of us, but when her suffering finally stopped, it made the kids and I closer. She passed away peacefully, and though our lives became a bit harder, we were all happy that she was no longer in pain. We called ourselves the Hippos, because the kids were always hungry, there were four of us, and the Hungry Hungry Hippos was our favorite board game to play together. I bought all of them a gold, heart shaped locket. Inside was our last picture as a family, my wife included, and none of the kids ever let it leave their person. Aside from that my life was still blissful. My job was steady, my kids were well behaved and starting to be successful, and the government kept us in the dark on pretty much everything. It kept me stress free for a while I will say, but it was what made me unprepared when the New World started.

PLANET PLAGUE
RINGING My ears are ringing. I turned my head to the left and I see my commander staring back at me. Her head severed and eyes wide open. Her face frozen still uttering her last words before the explosion. The sky is Gray now as I turn to my right still clasping the Blood Red Locket. My body feels numb. I close my eyes. Tears running down the sides of my face and I pray that I get out of this alive. I open my eyes and slowly roll over to my side. We were ambushed. Only 2 blocks from our extraction point. Steely hands clasped my shoulder, it's Amy. Her face looks tormented. “Are you alright!” I nodded my head as she helped me to my feet. Pulling out my sidearm as we rushed to cover. In the buildings all around us, men are firing on our position. The crack and thunder of their guns are drawing them to us. Those whose souls are departed but they’re rotting corpses still walk among us hungry for our flesh. This planet is dead! Planet Plague as we call it. From our ship, just a Black Pearl levitating in space. 20 billion souls, all gone now, consumed by the evil that is this Heart Shaped Locket.
