There is an odd story of a man who hung himself after brutally murdering a family consisting of a husband, wife and two kids, one of which was only 2. They say that his rotted corpse, now pecked upon by crows and flies, still swings from the tree where he buried the family, their spirits lurking amongst the house and yard, looking to avenge their untimely death.

It is said that anyone who dares to creak open the rusty metal gate and explore goes missing. Most people who merely walk by the house experience chills throughout their bodies, and the unsettling gaze of invisible eyes looking at them. In some cases, usually when people are on the same sidewalk as the house, people feel cold hands grabbing them from behind and tugging them towards the old house. Usually, people who have gone through this are seen on the opposite sidewalk, must they go past the house after their unfortunate experience.

One case in particular, however, had the victim going back to the house everyday, at the same time, just as if she were being manipulated by the house somehow. When questioned, strangely, she couldn’t recall ever going to the house, much less ever having seen the house. A few more days of the woman’s odd house routine followed the interview, but one day she went to the house and never came back out. Witnesses recall hearing a scream and then dead silence, as if the house was waiting. For what, nobody knows. Investigators searched the house but couldn’t find anything or anyone. The news announcement for the missing woman appeared on the media shortly after. One kid named Lucas and his friend Oliver were walking past the house at night after they heard the announcement, and Lucas dared his friend to go to the house. Of course, Oliver had to say yes, or he would be taken as a coward and be known as a loser in school. He walked up to the house and shivered, not from the weather, for it was quite pleasant that day, but from the cast-iron gate. It seemed as if there were seeping tendrils of stone-cold dread finding their way to Oliver and sticking to his bones like glue. He opened the creaking gate and took a step forward, feeling unseen eyes boring into his skin. As he walked forward, towards the house, he felt those stares looking even deeper within him, looking into his very soul. He opened the door to the house and saw dusty old cobwebs along the frail wooden walls. A little boy floating in the air about three feet away from him completed his searching gaze, as Oliver's eyes stayed on the boy for quite awhile. He looked like a regular boy, but his eyes were all black and oozing black liquid. His neck was penetrated by a thin line that was also oozing black blood.

“Will you play with me?” the lights flickered and went black as the boy said those words. Oliver felt something push his legs out from under him and he lay in the penetrating darkness. The lights flickered back on after an uncertain amount of time. He found himself face-up on the ground. Oliver got up and heard an eerie sound coming from the hallway. It sounded like a little girl was crying for help. He helplessly walked towards the sound, lured by its innocent, pleading voice. When he reached the entrance to the hallway, it got colder. So cold in fact, that Oliver could see his breath hang in the air. The voice stopped crying, and was replaced by many whispers throughout the hallway.

“Turn Back” the voices whispered.

Oliver carried on.

“Retreat while you can”

He ignored them.

“You don’t belong here”

He kept going, the brightly lit hallway losing light one step at a time, until he was plunged into the darkness only an eternal abyss could make.

“Go Back”

The voices hissed one last time before disappearing. Oliver was relieved that the voices were gone. After walking for what seemed like hours in the dark hallway, he saw a small golden yellow light in front of a simple wooden door. He walked towards the door and heard a peculiar music box chime coming from the room. He opened the wooden door cautiously and a loud creaking sound echoed through the hallway. Inside was the interior design of a bathroom, complete with a porcelain toilet and bathtub with tan shower curtains. He walked towards the shower curtains, the music chime growing louder with each step. At the curtains, the music stops, waiting for something to happen. Oliver pushes the curtains back and screams. In the bathtub, there are bloody bits and pieces of flesh, bone and chunks of hair. On the wall, there's bloody handprints and a scrawled message.

"You should have listened"

Oliver backs away from the tub and slips, hitting his head on the sink with a sickening crunch. A little girl laughs and appears before his blurred vision. She has black eyes, pale skin, a gray dress and is holding what seems to be a kitchen knife. Oliver tries to scream, but fails as the girl stabs his throat, and then Oliver is no more.

Lucas has been pacing back and forth outside the house for quite awhile, waiting for Oliver with his phone out, about to call 911. He peers into the fence and sees movement. Thinking it's Oliver, he runs over, about to ask what took so long, but when he gets to the backyard, there's no one. Lucas is about to walk out when he hears whispering. He strains to hear them, but he can't make out what they're saying. He walks closer, and the voices get louder. He runs to the old tree, where there's a rotted hunk of flies and flesh hanging, and he can finally hear them, loud as day. They chant in an unknown language, but Lucas's body somehow knows what to do, despite him resisting. His hands pull the corpse out of the noose. Then he stands on a root and puts his head through it. Freaking out, he tries to regain control of his body, but then his legs kick out, making him choke and snapping his neck, killing him.

A while later, Lucas's mother calls the police. They investigate the house, and question his mother, but she says he's been out all day walking down the street near the abandoned house. The police investigate the house anyways and find Lucas's body, on his bed with a gun on the ground, blood all over the walls. After the ambulance came and took the body, another call was made, this time it's Oliver's mother. The police find Oliver's body hanging in the bathroom with the bloody message "you should have listened" on the mirror. Investigating further, the police find a trail of footprints leading to the abandoned house. The investigators look all around the house and find nothing out of place, the lamps are cold, the bathroom clean. The only odd thing is that everything's clean, not a speck of dust anywhere. They go to the backyard of the house and see the bare tree with its fly-infested noose and clutter of leaves around its base. They walk around and see the corpse of a little girl in a gray, blood-splattered dress holding a knife in her limp hand. As they're studying it, there's a snap and a thud, followed by a rustle of leaves. They go back to the noose to find the corpse gone and the noose snapped.
