Night Of The Dead

Halloween monsters!

It is believed, that on the night of Halloween, the dead resurface on earth. Perhaps not the zombies you'd see in classic horror films, but the spirits of the dead, reveal themselves more openly. It stems from the Celtic belief that on the 31st of October, the seasons collide, opening a rift between the underworld where dead spirits linger. The idea of dressing up in spooky costumes and so forth, was a way to scare off any unwanted ghosts. This could explain why Supernatural sightings are ironically quite rare during this time of year. However, some ghost hunters have dared to venture outside of society during this night. They have discovered all matter of terrifying encounters, where it is not just the ghosts of humans and animals that resurface on earth, but even demons have been known to crack

One dare devil by the name of Jack Thompson, foolishly entered a long abandoned mansion, that once belonged to a cult of demon worshippers. He did this in the vain hope of catching something truly disturbing on tape, believing he would strike gold in the world of entertainment. However, what he actually got in return, was something far more disturbing instead. The mansion was old and Gothic, standing derelict and alone against the full moon. On the way here, Jack had seen many treat or trickers exploring the town, but as he ventured further north into the country, the more silent his walk became. He climbed over the tall rusty gates to get into the mansion's courtyard, obviously ignoring all the warning signs that were decorated all over the place. This only added to his curiosity however. The mansion had been left alone for almost 50 years, when somebody eventually ratted the cult out to authorities. Inside this place was a large number of unspeakable things. Police found dead bodies buried within the basement, bloody sacrificial rituals were found in secret rooms. Masks depicting the devil and black cloaks were found in wardrobes. This happened during the 1930s, but future residents who dared buy up the property, soon discovered that the mansion was haunted. Often seeing ghosts of the cult within the hallways, like as if they were still alive. Now these sightings were from any other time of the year, what Jack Thompson was about to see on Halloween night, will shock you to your core! Upon entering the mansion, he was surprised to see candles lighting the lobby and corridors, with the sounds of distant praying in the dining room. He suddenly felt stupid, thinking that this mansion wasn't actually abandoned at all. So he tried to leave, but the doors entering the place slammed shut and refused to open, he was trapped! Jack was panicking now, it seemed his only hope was to seek out the residents, apologize for trespassing and ask to leave without a fuss. It wasn't an ideal situation, but he felt foolish and just wanted to end this whole ridiculous thing. As he walked towards the dining room, a deep voice called out to him.

"We've been expecting you." The voice said.

"Yo- you have?!" Jack stuttered, looking around the old place frantically, searching for the man who said that.

"Oh yes, a very, very long time." It replied, "please... Follow my voice, everything will make sense soon enough!"

"Ok then." Jack shrugged, eager to get this over with. The voice sounded warm and welcoming, he sensed no danger. His thoughts soon changed the moment he entered the room though, as a hundred masked cultists, all in black cloaks, stood in rows holding sickles. Jack spun and ran, but was soon overwhelmed by 10 cultists who restraint him within seconds.

"What do you want from me?!" He cried, kicking for freedom, but the cultists had a supernatural strength he couldn't resist.

"Life!" The voice said, but it came from all of them, like the cult had become one living entity.

"I don't understand?!" Jack screamed.

"It is Halloween, our only chance to return to life!" The cultists laughed. Jack realized they were spirits knew immediately what to do,he pulled out the Christian cross he had around his neck and screamed; "God protect me!" Then his body felt like acid to the spirits, they dropped him immediately, but soon gathered round him.

"There is no escape!" They all roared, clearly frustrated by his holy trick, "Jesus cannot save you!"

"The power of Christ compels you!" He shouted, punching a cultist so hard, it evaporated into a puff of green smoke.

"No!" They cried, "we cannot let him escape!"

Jack spotted a nearby window and bolted for it, smashing through the glass like a wrecking ball. There was a steep fall, but he stood quickly and limped away. He looked behind to see hundreds of cultists chase after him, pouring from the mansion like ants.

"There is no escape!" They laughed. Jack took a deep breath and forced himself to run, the throbbing pain in his right foot was agony to bear. He hid in the courtyard's garden, within the thick bushes, watching the cultists carefully. They eventually dispersed, believing Jack had escaped. He waited in the dark all night, until dawn. When the sun finally arose, the ghosts had vanished. He planned on filming his adventure, but lost his camera in the pursuing chase. Knowing the cult still lingered, just not as strongly as Halloween night, he didn't dare to look for his camera. Instead deciding to just leave that haunted place, never to return.

Halloween can be a night of celebration, fun and pranks. Yet it is important to respect history, we dress like ghouls and decorate our homes with carved pumpkins for a reason. To fend off dark spirits and vengeful ghosts. Otherwise, who knows what horrors could be unleashed?
