The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window.

"The blackest of all blackness," "the deepest of all darkness," and "a stomping depth of a thousand ashes festering inside your nostrils because you have seen me."

These were Grumio Ash's last remarks for months; he resided within the Pine Tree Mountain Cabin. Why, in the name of everything that is holy, were these their last words? In the last few weeks of their lives, they would be the only words they would utter. Every individual who spoke afterward to Grumio repeated the same thing in their last, meaningless breaths for weeks before passing away. Over and over again, the demon inside this creature would summon forth these words. The demonic creature would telepath these phrases into their minds up to the final few hours it was imprisoned inside of this cabin.

They thought the devil had been let loose and cast out, yet the candle still burned inside the window one night.

Dr. Bludwan Kane was a hypnotherapist from Illinois who took after his great-grandfather’s family business. Dr. Kane’s late forefathers were the only line of groundkeepers of the Alton Military Prison, which was a prison located in Alton, Illinois and originally built in 1833 as the first state penitentiary in Illinois that closed in 1857. During the American Civil War, the facility reopened in 1862 to accommodate the expanding number of Confederate prisoners of war and was closed at the conclusion of the war in 1865.

Grumio spent the final few weeks of his life with Bludwan Kane for two-hour weekend sessions, which invariably concluded with Grumio strangely bleeding from the middle of his skull. Dr. Kane employed all of his methods throughout his sessions, and he even used a pendulum he discovered at the Pine Tree Mountain Cabin, built from an antique wristwatch that belonged to Grumio's grandpa. It was during the last fixation induction that Dr. Kane discovered he would never be sane again. He, too, was committed and also repeated the same curse that had befallen everyone who had come into contact with Grumio Ash.

"The blackest of all blackness," "the deepest of all darkness," and "a stomping depth of a thousand ashes festering inside your nostrils because you have seen me."

Do not recall these phrases and do not summon the monster. But if your soul remains pure and you remain innocent, you may seek compassion. Some who heard of this narrative are still missing. Yet, a flame requires air, and a candle still needs a spark. So when a foolish park ranger walked up to the Pine Tree Mountain Cabin and noticed a candle burning in the window, he fled. And he ran so far that he departed past his running vehicle down a steep slope, stumbling over a loose log, causing his foot to get stuck below. Screaming in horrible anguish, he reached back to grip his leg, which was revealing his femur bone streaming with infinite blood.

The vehicle had a GPS, which was the only thing that was able to save his life. No one accepted his tale of why he escaped from the cabin and ended up losing his leg. No one would believe he saw a candle burning in the window. After this tragedy, there were numerous thoughts about locking off the route to the cabin and perhaps knocking down the place. Yet, no one knew who had acquired the land when Grumio Ash died. So it stayed as well as each candle.

Many candles.

No one could explain what occurred to Dr. Bludwan, either. He had a wife who left him in the final few weeks when he went insane and recited the curse to her for the last time. Why was she spared? Many others felt it was a pure spirit or that it was because she didn’t realize she was pregnant. No one understood how she got pregnant by Dr. Bludwan during their late years. Some assumed it was another young man.

Princessa Deamonne Kane never knew her father after she was born. She was informed by her mother that he had gone crazy and that it was implausible how she was conceived. Some people felt her mother drank too much alcohol the final night she saw her husband, Dr. Kane, and woke up forgetting what they had done when he was in the crazy asylum before he died. No one knows how Princessa was conceived, and she was traumatized by the tales of everyone in the community she grew up in.

The second year of college was in two weeks, and Princessa’s mother wanted to see her before the semester started. She paid for her to come to visit back home in the town where she was born, and her mom never left. Taking after her late father, Princessa never intended to see her mother again, and instead had enough of the mystery of her existence. She packed her bags and avoided visiting her mother to travel to the Pine Tree Mountain Cabin.

The one thing she didn’t want to do was travel alone, so she grabbed her closest friend, who was also her boyfriend at the time. She persuaded him that her mother had paid for the cabin and that it was a present for them both to get away from the big city and the stressful student dormitories. Princessa never disclosed to him what her frightening history was about, so they headed to the cabin for a night’s vacation.

Wiping his wide shoulder from the sticky spider webs on the town’s wooden entrance, he said,

"No more nicknames, Princess."

He concealed an old news story he found fascinating while the couple prepared provisions for the night.

"And why was it so urgent to get here? You didn’t want to visit your mother first? "

"What Mother?" She shouted.

"We never had a relationship and you think a little trip will change things, Morren?"

Princessa did seem to despise him. He didn't mind that she slept around. He could only sympathize. She had been filled with hatred since adolescence. But she had feelings for him. In school, the pair were at the top of their class. The last thing they could afford at the start of the semester was to be late. Morren, on the other hand, was wise and gave the cashier his phone number in return for the article.

The clerk at the town store overheard where they were heading and told him the cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night a candle burned in the window. Morren laughed it off at the moment, but when they arrived at Pine Tree Mountain Cabin, he didn't say anything further. He looked out the passenger window and saw the candle burning.

He was hesitant to leave the vehicle, so he assured Princessa that he would meet her inside after he finished the news piece he had gotten from the clerk. She was so enraged at his hesitation that she rushed inside the cabin, oblivious to the candlelight being blown out by the strong wind from the door opening. Morren was stuck inside the car as he realized the shopkeeper had given him her most intimate family secret.

"Morren, how the hell do you even have phone service?" She yelled on the toilet seat while reaching for napkins. "Get the hell in here, now. It is getting dark."

"I think we should go to your mother’s place tonight."

He shook lightly as the phone lost grip, hitting the floorboard. The signal dropped, never to come back. Before Princessa could wipe, she heard the car start up and couldn’t believe what happened next.

"Did that asshole seriously leave me?" She yells out in disbelief. "He better not have taken my car."

There were no lights and no electricity, just as she had predicted. Worst of all, he had departed with all of the duffel bags inside the vehicle. Princessa does her best to clean up and enters the cabin from the stale urine-smelling bathroom. As she turned to go, she spotted a faint light in the window. It was only a candle. The following fifteen minutes flew by when she realized there was no food, no drink, no electricity, and no trace of her boyfriend.

She chooses to explore inside her father's sealed cupboards and compartments while the chilly wind blows through the cabin. She smashes through a locked door, desperate and hungry, while a large blast of wind rushes after her, knocking down many objects. She gets to her feet and looks behind her to find the front door open and the candle still burning in the window.

She rushes over to seal the door and discovers old blankets covering a dusty chair. She tears gently, falls into the chair halfway, and closes her crying eyes as she pulls the blankets over her body. Princessa's firmly closed eyes form an inverted yellowish oval on the inner of her eyelids, splattered with dotted ring patterns. As beady sunrays scatter haphazardly, the yellowish hue generates a vibrating wave of complicated motion.

A sudden dramatic shroud of blackness engulfed any lingering color and light in her visionless shut eyelids with the deepest of black. A horrific high-pitched energy tone drives darkness to devour her quicker than the speed of light, representing a hideous figure impelling her space. Molded horns and an awful odor arise, as a terrible entity paralyzes her breathless spirit.

The demon.

The piercing sound poured deep into her ears as her cries faded into the darkness to engulf the burning candle in the window. She screamed through the leathery darkness as blood poured down her eye lobes. Her calls for rescue fluctuate between screams and imploring the hideous creature to cease.

She is unable to scream since her body is transforming into a paralytic condition, preventing her mobility and escape. Her hair greys as quickly as the clouds develop above the Pine Tree Mountain Cabin. She was discovered in a coma, soiled and with a stale stench. Morren alerted the police after driving halfway back to town due to whatever was left in his gut. This is how she was discovered.

Ms. Kane had been seeing her daughter for the previous six months, and Princessa had emerged from her coma. In amazement, her mother was the only one inside the hospital room and ran to grab her a drink of water. She spotted her daughter sitting up and fully responsive as she turned to bring her the drink...

"The blackest of all blackness," "the deepest of all darkness," and "a stomping depth of a thousand ashes festering inside your nostrils because you have seen me."

Since then, the cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years,

...but one night, a candle burned in the window.
