The Mutant Toys

Let's face it, Sid's toys were actually petrifying. Also named 'The Mutant Toys'. From the moment Woody entered Sid's room with these creatures, we were terrified for Woody's end. They all, however, worked together to get their justice. These mashed-up toys actually leave you thinking about what some kids in the real world do to their own toys.

The moment Woody met Baby-Face was quite a jump scare. A baby head with one eye, a creepy smile, spiky hair and mashed to a claw machine? What sort of sane person would put that together?

Emotion - Fear

These toys are something out of a cartoon horror movie, the baby face is by far the creepiest. The image says it all.

Buzz

After Buzz sees himself on the television, he thinks he is an almighty Space Ranger who thinks he is invincible. He attempted to fly out the window but ended up falling in style with his arm falling off, lying flat on his back and facing up at the ceiling waiting for his fate to arrive. His fate appeared to be Sid's sister. She took him in, dressed him up, and gave him a hat and a new name, Mrs Nesbitt. Buzz seemed delirious and not himself, even Woody seemed shocked to see this.

Looking closer at Sid's sister's toys, something doesn't seem quite right - oh yeah, they are headless. Something seems to run in the family here, we never even saw the parents in the movie, maybe that was a good thing.

Emotion - Pity

We felt sorry for Buzz, it was at this moment he knew he wasn't a Space Ranger, he was in fact a toy. Then being taken by Sid's sister and strung up and forced to have a tea party with headless dolls. A sad moment that leaves us crying for Buzz.

The Sandpit Scene

When Woody finds out Sid has taken Buzz and has him tied to a rocket ready to blast him, he quickly gathers the Mutant Toys together, and they all go and hide in the sandpit in Sid's garden ready to scare him. As Sid is ready to prepare Buzz, Woody and the Mutant Toys come to life, turn all creepy and scare Sid into not harming any toys again, he is petrified by this, so he drops Woody and runs off screaming like a little girl, a victory for the gang. It comes across like Annabelle/Chucky in this scene.

Sid picks up Woody off the ground to see what's going on with these toys. Woody answers back to him, 'Who are you calling busted, Buster?' he calls him by his full name, 'That's right, I'm talking to you Sid Phillips. We don't like being blown up, Sid, or smashed or ripped apart' Sid then realises Woody's pull string hasn't been pulled, it makes him think, how is Woody saying all of this? Woody goes on to say, 'We toys can see everything, so play nice!' Sid drops Woody in horror and leaves the scene immediately.

Emotion - Creeped Out

The fact they came to life and scared a human is one thing, their mashed up faces and bodies are enough to give anyone nightmares. A very horror movie doll stereotype here.

The Chase

Towards the end of the movie the moving truck has all the toys in it bar Woody and Buzz. Woody went back for Buzz who was strapped to the rocket and sacrificed his life to save him, the true hero of the story. They fall off the back of the RC and are left stranded in the road. Buzz and Woody then work together and set the rocket alight, they make it into the sky, Buzz lets his wings out, and they finally make it back to Andy, a true happy ending.

Emotion - Pity

We feel sorry for them both when they are left stranded in the middle of the road crying, thinking they haven't made it. Fortunately, they are smart toys who quickly found themselves and found Andy in the end, a victory!
