This huge house upon the hill is rumored to have a mean old man in there that killed his wife and possibly his child too. But no one has seen the bodies, no one has seen his wife in many years. Then the child, no one knows if one ever existed.

As children growing up in this neighborhood, we all saw the lights flash on and off in the big house on the hill. Rumors started to float around that his wife was haunting the house making the lights go on and off like that.

This is not the typical old house that you would imagine. They say the mean old man build the house for his new bride. It starts with the first two stories of the house, which looks quite normal. Maybe he bought it like that at first, then decided to add on. he added a third story on the left side of the house and the right side. Left the middle of the house at only two stories. Then he decided to add one more story, making it 4 stories. However, the 4th story is only on one side, the right. Maybe he intended to add a 4th to the left side also, but something stopped him from doing so.

As years went by time also took its toll on the house on the hill. We are all now teenagers and the house looks abandoned, but we know he is still in there somewhere. Lights still flash on and off just as they always have over the years. Not your typical stay on light because someone is in that room. They flash on and right back off. This is why we suspected it to be haunted.

The paint on the old house was all peeling away. It needed some TLC for many years. Never seen anyone working outside the house to fix it, paint it, and maintain the yard. Nothing. The city has mowed the grass for many years now.

Now that we were teenagers, we wanted to know if the old man or any remains of his family still resided in the derelict house.

We waited till nightfall so no one would see us entering the house. Boards coving all the first-floor windows, maybe to stop people from entering. Walking around the house to the back, we can barely make out two cellar doors. Surprised they were not locked. We slowly pull open one door super slow in hopes to avoid any creaking that came with an old metal door that hasn't been opened in most likely years. Of course, no matter how slow we went, it still creaked a very little bit. Once opened we waited to listen for any surrounding noise. Not even the wind blowing. I turned on my flashlight and we ascended the stairs.

Pure darkness surrounded us as we hit the dirt floor at the bottom of the cellar. Jars of canned items still sit on some shelves. How they are bearing the weight and not falling yet, I wonder. I can not even tell what is in the jars, they are so old they do not even look like any recognizable food anymore.

Moving to the next room is the only way we can go. I shine my light to see a bigger room with a set of stairs going up and a door to my left. Then a door to my left.

Looking at the door more closely I see there had been a lock on it at one point in time, which has now rusted off. What would have to be locked up? I saw a little bit of light coming from the back wall of this room, as we opened the door slowly. It was a very faint blue light that cast a little light to see what was in the middle of the room.

A box, a pine coffin like they had many years ago to hold their dead. Could it be? Would we get our answer already? Was this his wife and possibly child also? Looking at each other know we all thought the same thing.

Trying to find a way to open the box, there it was a latch. Why was it so much colder in here than in the other two rooms? To keep the bodies from smelling? Soon as we started to lift the top of the box, a loud bang from upstairs. Cover straight back down as we froze. Waiting for another sound before we decided to leave or keep going. Nothing.

We decided to skip the box and go check the house out while we were able to. We figured we could look in the box on the way out.

Heading up the stairs into a kitchen, past a dining room next, well what is now empty shells of what these rooms used to be. Headed up to the second floor. Empty each room locked. We checked out floor three before we went back to check out four on the other side of the house.

The only thing up on the third floor was one unlocked room. A child's room. Everything is still in this room, not bare like the rest of the house. So time to check out the fourth floor.

As we made our way up we heard a bussing sound. Passing a fully stocked kitchen. Makes me know someone was living in this house because they were eating. Following the sound down to the last room on the 4th floor. His room. This room had all the expensive stuff in it. Only stuff left of this house. Pictures of him and his family, including a child. He was barely alive. Machines keeping him alive only. Heard a bathroom flush in the distance. We quickly got out of there fast and as quietly as we could.

Not forgetting to check the box on the way out. Nothing. Looking a bit closer two urns at the foot of the box with two female names. Must be his wife and daughter. The box is awaiting his death so he can be buried with his family.

We still did not get answers. House will hold the secrets with it until its demise after the mean old man. Don't think we will ever know the truth.
