*This is a spoiler free review, but I will be talking about a moment at the very start of the movie about how Chucky came to be.*

Now, when movies of any genre gets rebooted/remade sometimes they don't end up great. It seems to be that way mostly with horror movies. Nightmare on Elm Street in 2010, Carrie in 2013, Halloween in 2007, etc. (Although I kinda like that one, but I can see why most don't. I'm just a Rob Zombie fan.) So when I heard that they were rebooting Child's Play, one of the first series that had gotten me into horror, I was pretty worried they would ruin my favorite killer doll.

Turns out, I was happily wrong. I actually found this better than the two recent straight-to-dvd sequels they made. Although, those had some good moments in Curse and Cult of Chucky, but that is a story for another post... maybe.

This movie was fantastic. The new spin on Chucky was amazing and I loved every moment of it. True, Mark Hamill is no Brad Dourif, but he did a great job nonetheless. He made the voice seem both creepy, but kind of cute at the same time. Chucky even seemed like a nice doll to have in the home—of course that was before he went all stab happy. I remember when I first heard that Hamill was going to voice him, for a moment I wasn't sure, since I'm a big fan of Dourif. Then I remembered that Hamill is the voice of my favorite version of The Joker. Knowing how he sounds as the Clown Prince of Crime, I figured he would be great at doing an unsettling voice or an equally unsettling creature.

There is one thing I thought was a bit odd about the movie, and that's about how Chucky became Chucky. The movie starts with the CEO of the company that created the Buddi doll and other devices that he can connect to. Sort of like an Alexa if she could move around. The scene then changes to a factory in Vietnam where workers are manufacturing the doll. The worker that is working on the code for our star is being yelled at by his boss. The worker, obviously, gets mad and then proceeds to remove any and all the safety measures from the programming. And that's it. That's why Chuck becomes evil. During the trailers and promotions I thought it was an A.I. gone rogue sort of story, but I guess they had to start the plot somehow. They were still able to pull it off pretty well, thought. There were even a few easter eggs and call backs to the first three Child's Play movies here and there. Sadly, no comeo of Bran Dourif that I could see, and I was really hoping he would be in there somewhere.

The rest of the movie was amazing. The animatronics were outstanding, and as I stated earlier, it even made Chucky look cute at times. The acting was pretty good too. And, of course, the kills ever inventive and pretty fun to watch with some characters (you'll know what I mean when you see it).

I would go on more about the movie, but I don't want to spoil it for those who haven't seen it yet. But I hope that I have convinced some of you out there to go and check it out.
