There weren’t always dragons in the valley. They used to be common, but now that their population had dwindled down they’re slowly beginning to move up into the more populated areas in the valley. As such there weren’t as many places to live for the species, and it is only now that the dragons have been driven out from the valley. The reasoning of why the dragons were dwindling was due to the humans who decided to come and steal Dragon eggs from the nests that lived in the Valley of Dragons. They were worth alot of coin in the underground markets. Some of the humans had difficulties trying to complete the theft. Dragon Females tend to stay near the eggs when first laid which made it difficult to complete the task of stealing one or more of the eggs. That didn't stop the humans trying though. The humans this time attempted to steal eggs from a new mother dragon named Eris. She had just turned seven cycles old when she laid her first brood. She had attempted to stop the humans from taking her eggs but got badly hurt in the process. Sadly, the humans were victorious of their cruel deed. She watched the the humans get away with one of her eggs with her head held low in pain while sheltering her eggs that were left, the tears that threatened to fall came with a cry of a dragon that could be heard throughout the valley.

---------------

Eris was watching her brood play hide and seek with one of the other dragons brood in the valley. One moment she was there watching the two siblings play, and the next minute one had disappeared. There was no trace of the young brood anywhere on the ground near the nests or anywhere in the trees nearby. There were signs that something had attacked which made Eris go in alert. She roared to alert the other dragons of the possible threat to their young and that one was already missing. She hoped the young brood was not taken by the humans but it was most likely. She recalled the humans stealing one of her eggs and refused to let it happen again. Eris and the other dragons started heading to the nearby human villages to search for the young dragon.

Eris didn’t cry at first. She did nothing but stare silently at the sky. After a while her tears finally fell and mixed with the dirt and mud under her scales. Eris cried until there were no more tears left inside of her. It felt like hours before Eris stopped feeling nothing. Her mate tried to comfort her. She looked around at the human villages in hopes of seeing young brood but they weren’t there. Her mind began to wander and she began to think about what she should do next. She didn’t know how long she, her mate nor the other dragons were searching. "They have to find them." Eris thought silently. "We have to."

When all hope was lost she heard a faint cry of her young brood. She looked at her mate and he nodded his head and alerted the others and started the decent. The dragons started breathing fire and destroying the village as retaliation. Eris found her brood next to a few soldiers guarding them. She ripped the soldiers apart with her teeth and ripped open the metal cage that was trapping her brood. She rubbed her head on the broods head and though the youngling was weak they attempted to rub their head back. She picked up her brood with her mouth and started heading back to the valley. While her fellow dragons continued to destroy the human village that dared to harm their young.

Eris finally got back to the nesting area with her missing youngling. She grabbed some food to help feed the young one since it was terribly weak from what the humans cruel deed. She pushed the youngling closer to the food and water source. The youngling started responding better after drinking and eating nutrients. Eris continued to gaurd the other younglings till her mate and the other dragons return.
