We have to work together to get back to the surface before the sharks attack us!

47 Meters Down emerged from the ocean in 2017. Talked into going on a shark cage expedition on their vacation, a tragic event occurs. Falling to the depths of the ocean, Lisa and Kate only have less than an hour of oxygen to spare.

47 Meters Down is more about the suspenseful atmosphere rather than a story or character development. Based on the trailer, I knew what was going to happen, but I was still interested in checking it out. Sharks have made quite an impact in the media. In this horrific ordeal, 47 Meters Down magnifies the importance of bravery.

Mandy Moore and Claire Holt had to sustain a hysterical mindset for most of the film. The pair does an amazing job in their interactions, playing as realistic sisters. Once we’re presented with their personalities, there’s not much else to say about their characters.

Their manic hysteria is enough to make you feel overwhelmed. Kate and Lisa have to get in survival mode while at the same time sharing heart-to-heart talks.

Since Moore and Holt have most of the screentime, other credits include Matthew Modine, Chris Johnson, Yani Gellman, and Santiago Segura.

We’re trapped underwater for most of the duration with the girls so we don’t see other characters. I’m glad that we don’t cut to the action going on at the surface because it would have ruined the tone.

Writers struggled with the story once the girls fall to the bottom of the ocean. Most of the situation becomes repetitive, like with the girls swimming midway trying to contact the surface, or the several jump scares with the sharks.

I don’t know if it’s scriptwriters or directors, but the girls talk way too much during this harrowing situation, explaining everything that they’re doing. There should have been less dialogue and more action. We know what’s happening.

Did you know that 47 Meters Down has sharks? Because it doesn’t let you forget about it. I’m not sure if they used real sharks for some shots, but filmmakers ended up using real CGI for most of the film. And yes, it’s noticeable.

I will give the film credit for its breathtaking cinematography of the ocean. This film definitely made me want to go to the beach or take a vacation - but not in a shark cage.

47 Meters Down is not realistic. Even the dialogue over explains everything. Would someone live if they fell at the rate of speed to the bottom of the ocean? Is it possible to be buoyant and sit on the ocean floor? I questioned the logic of the story which distracted me from enjoying the film.

Johannes Roberts sold the terror of the situation. While he could have focused more on the realism of the story, he created a nerve-wracking film with a twist ending that keeps you on the edge of your seat. Roberts did an outstanding job with the action sequences, especially with dictating Moore and Holt.

Although the film makes you question everything, it’s still entertaining. Remember, if you don’t want to participate in a particular situation, just say no. We all have different tastes for adventure. Make your vacation, or life, what you want it to be.

You don’t have to own up to someone or showcase that you’re a risk-taker by climbing into a shark cage in the middle of the ocean.

Shark lovers, you have to check out 47 Meters Down. Despite some inconsistencies and its unrealistic nature, you have to see this film.
