13 sins, a horror film review

I love the main plot of 13 sins, with the corrupt game show host forcing the less han willing participant into his sick games, a tuly wonderful horror film plot but yet one that is so easy to mess up. This film does just that, it messes it up in alot of ways, and it's first flaw was it's short build up of the main character, in a time of only fourteen minutes, and we get a very generic bland guy who is in need of financial help, this being a plot point that is wayyyyyyyyyyyy to over-used.

Then it's second flaw is the villian himself, who when we are first introduced to the villian via a phone call the villian does not in anyway come off as threatening and the sudden knowledge of our protagonist clearly was suppose to make him so, but only left the audience with a WTF!! kinda feeling because it is never explained how he knew this information or even a back story to the villian. Look future movie directors if your gonna go this route, have your villian be threatening, give him a back story, whats the reason he is the host of these games, why does he choose our protagonist out of all the people in the world, don't just assume a voice over a phone and a huge amount of horror tropes will make the villian frightening, it doesnt work. And perhaps the worst thing of all about this movie, are the challenges the villian puts the hero into, I mean his first one was "kill a fly"... seriously!!!!!!, i mean again i guess this is suppose to make him hreatening like he has a sense of control but you could have done way way better than having the guy kill a fly for the first challenge and assume that would be intimidating. It does not get much better from there, the second challenge is to "eat the fly" and ok so you could argue that the villian is getting off on the protagonists humiliation, but nobody is around when he eats the fly so he really wouldnt be humiliated, and it is not till 38 minutes in (nearly half the run time) that the challenges do actually start to get somewhat threatening. From this 38 minute point our villian actually does become somewhat threatening, until the semi-twist when the hero goes to his father for help and it is revealed his dad once played the game to, and again is given no reason why his dad was chosen out of the billions of people on earth, and this twist the way it is played off it felt so out of place for this movie like it did not even blong in this movie.

Then near the end, during the final few moments it looks like they were gonna set up a sequeal with the protagonists girlfriend getting the same offer from the caller, but she tells it to back off ( a lighter way of putting it) and the thing is.... she escaped scott free, i mean for all the power and control the villian has why would he let this fly, it made no sense at all and is just so stupid and confusing i mean if all our protagonist had to do was tell the villian to back off then that really really takes ALL of the fright and intimidating nature built up ovwr the last 38 minutes away completley, i mean why would you make a horror villian defeated that easily, it is just not scary.

This movie is just stupid, confusing, filled with basic horror film tropes, and is honest and truly NOT WORTH ANYONES TIME!!!, there are so much better things to do with your hour or so of life than this movie.
