How Did He Fall

A friend of mine came to me and asked me this question, “How did Satan fall?” And I didn’t have an answer for her so I told her that I would find the answer and get back to her. Just because we are Christians it doesn’t mean we know everything about the Bible. We could live a hundred years and still, we wouldn’t know everything. The question was one I didn’t really know. I knew Satan fell because the Bible says in Luke 10:18, “And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from Heaven.” In order for us to know how he fell, we need to delve into who Satan was before his fall. So let’s look into what the Bible has to say about not what men want us to know.

When Satan was cast out of Heaven, he became the prince or god of our world. We can see in John 12:31,” Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.” This means that with the death of Jesus, Satan’s kingdom will be destroyed and it will be the means of setting up God’s kingdom over man. 2 Corinthians 4:4 says, “In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.” According to Barnes Commentary, “The name “god” is here given to him, not because he has any divine attributes, but because he actually has the homage of the men in this world as their god, as the being, who is really worshiped, or who has the affections of their heart in the same way as it is given to idols. By “this world” is meant the wicked world; or the mass of men.”

According to Revelation 12:7–9, “And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon fought and his angels, and prevailed not; neither was their place found anymore in heaven. And the great dragon was cast out, the old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.” By reading these verses we learn that Satan has many names like the dragon, serpent, Devil, and Satan. We also learn that even though Satan was an angel he could still be thrown out of Heaven. So we must understand that if we don’t follow God’s word we won’t get to Heaven because “God is no respecter of persons” (Romans 2:11–16). If Satan can go to Hell for eternity so will we who sin.

Revelations 20:2–3 says “And cast him into the bottomless pit.” And in 2 Peter 2; 4, “For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell.”

Isaiah 14:12, “How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!” Some Christians believe that this scripture is hinting at the fall of Satan and his angels but that is not the case. Satan is not mentioned in the Bible as Lucifer and the good angels are called morning stars (Job 38:7). Satan can transform into an angel of light because he once was one.

Satan is the father of lies, we can see that in John 8:44 when Jesus says,” Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar and the father of it.” Satan will do everything in his power to destroy us. He doesn’t want us to believe in God. Our punishment for believing Satan will be “Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels” (Matthew 25:41). We want to go to Heaven to be with God, not Hell with Satan. So we need to follow God who will protect us from Satan. He did that by sending his only begotten son, Jesus Christ to die on the cross for our sins. So let’s not let Satan win. If you were to die now, where would you go Heaven or Hell? Let’s do everything we can to go to Heaven to be with the saints, Jesus, and our Heavenly Father, God.

I hope this article was helpful to you as much as it was to me. It’s amazing to me that people would rather have fun in this world than prepare for our eternity in Heaven. We can only serve one master here on earth, God or Satan. My family will be serving God.
