What makes a Language whole
The various spoken forms heard around Bremen, Germany and Interlaken, Switzerland are considered regional dialects of German. But when someone from Bremen visits the Swiss Alps, the stories they hear among the locals may not make sense to them. Mandarin and Cantonese are also often referred to as dialects of Chinese outside of China. But they are also different from Spanish and Italian. On the other hand, speakers of Danish, Norwegian and Swedish, three recognized languages, can usually communicate in their mother tongue with little difficulty. And Turkish series broadcast without dubbing or subtitles are among the most popular programs in Azeri-speaking Azerbaijan. So when is a spoken form considered a dialect versus a language? It seems reasonable to classify the two speech styles as distinct languages or as dialects of the same language, determined by the degree of mutual intelligibility.

I wasn’t sure about entering this challenge at first. In large part, because in some ways I am already doing the job I imagine myself doing in any time period. That is being a writer and historian. But while talking with a couple of friends earlier today through Facebook comments, I became inspired to explore this idea more. While also exploring the implications of what it would be like to be a historian and writer in other time periods, and tie in an earlier thought I had a couple months ago.

With its innovative approach to pizza delivery and a strong focus on customer service, Domino's has revolutionized the pizza industry. The story of Domino's Pizza began when Tom Monaghan purchased a small pizza store called DomiNick's in 1960. He renamed it Domino's Pizza and started expanding the business. However, within the first year, James decided to leave the company, leaving Tom as the sole owner. Determined to make the business successful, Tom focused on improving the pizza delivery service, which was often slow and unreliable at the time. In 1965, Domino's introduced a unique system called the "30 minutes or free" guarantee. This guarantee promised customers that their pizzas would be delivered within 30 minutes, or they would receive them for free.
