Virudhunagar is the capital of Virudhunagar district. This area is one of the most important industries next to Coimbatore and Salem.It has the honor of being the birthplace of karmaveerar kamarajar and Kumaraswamy Raja. The gopuram, displayed as a symbol of the Tamil Nadu government, is located in the Srivilliputhur Andal temple in the area. It is the greatest pride of this region.Virudhunagar is one of the most important commercial cities of Tamil Nadu. Industries like cement, textile, food, petroleum, biscuits and weaving etc. grew tremendously in the area.Sivakasi known as Kutti's Japan, Rajapalayam famous for its dogs, Tiruchuli, birthplace of Ramanar etc. are the highlights of this area. Here are some famous temples and tourist centers.Most people work in the industrial sector. Some of the major educational institutions in Virudhunagar area are South Street Hindu Nagar Higher School, Kamarajar College of Engineering and Technology, PSRR College of Engineering for Women, Mepco Schlenk College of Engineering and many others.Virudhunagar was a part of Madurai district in the 16th century. . Virudhunagar was ruled by several kingdoms: Vijayanagar Empire (1559), Chanda Sahib (1740 - 1754), Arcot Nawab, Muhammed Yusuf Khan (1725 - 1764). Like other areas of TN, this area was later ruled by the British East India Company from 1801 to 1947.

Ramanasramam Tiruchuli

Ramanar was born in Ramanasramam Tiruchuli. He grew up and studied in this field. Later he went to Tiruvannamalai, lived here and died. This memorial Ashram was established to spread his fame and teachings.

Perunthalaivar Dr. K. Kamaraji MemorialVirudhunagar has a house built in his memory where karmaveerar kamarajar was born. Even when he was prime minister, his mother lived in this house. In his memory, many famous photos, objects worn by him, clothes, etc. are kept and exhibited in this house. admission is free.

Pilavakkali DamThis dam is located near Srivilliputhur, 56 km from Virudhunagar. The parks in the area are striking with their green lawns. Notably, there is a boating facility here which is the main tourist center of this area.

SrivilliputhurThe town is approximately 75 km from Virudhunagar. Famous for weaving and Balkova, the Andal temple tower rises majestically at a height of 192 feet with 12 floors. It prides itself on being the tallest tower in the South. The ardent devotee of Perumal Andal was born in this temple.The 200-year-old Andal temple and its chariots are the highlights of Srivilliputhur. Celebrated in the months of Puratas and Pangun, Brahmotsavam, Aadi Peruku, Panguni Uthiram, Karthika Deepam etc. The chariot festival held in the month of Chitrai is very famous.

Srivilliputhur Wildlife Sanctuary Srivilliputhur Wildlife Sanctuary The Srivilliputhur region is home to various wild animals including flying squirrels, wild goats, tigers and leopards, bears. The sanctuary is located on an area of ​​about 500 square kilometers. There are many species of birds here.Apart from monsoons and summers, you can also visit the sanctuary during mid-season. The forest department has established for this purpose.

Ayyanar FallsAyyanar Falls is about 15 km from Virudhunagar. Surrounded by a beautiful natural forest environment, the place is great to visit and enjoy. Ayyanar temple is also near this waterfall.

PallimadamPallimadam is located on the banks of kundatrangarai near tiruchul. There is a Kalayadha Sami temple built by the Pandya kings about 1000 years ago.

Thirumeni Nathari TempleA little away from Srivilliputhur is the Thirumeni Nathari Temple. This Siva temple is old and built by the Pandya kings.

Arulmigu Bhoominathar TempleThis is a beautiful Siva temple sung by Sekkizhar and Sundaramurthy Nayanar. This temple was built during the Pandya kings. This temple is about an hour's drive from Virudhunagar.

IrukkankudiIrukkankudi near Sattur has the famous Mariamman temple. Panguni Uthirami-festival occasions have three good.
