Phyllis has a reason for keeping this secret under wraps.

Fans of The Young and the Restless have taken to Twitter to discuss an issue that seems to have been swept under the rug. They want to know why Billy and Summer’s one night together has remained a secret. Phyllis stated at the time that she did not want her daughter embarrassed by the event and later blackmailed Billy into giving her money to remain quiet about it. Naturally Jack’s little brother would not want Victor or Victoria to find out what he has been up to. The fans who were discussing this issue believe it would breath some life into Genoa City if this sordid tale came to light, but there are reasons it may not.

Billy and Summer slept together while Mal Young was executive producer and head writer. Young also had Victor and Nikki involved in an open marriage. Viewers were outraged and the new head writer, Josh Griffith is trying to right the wrongs of his predecessor. Summer was clearly embarrassed after being rejected by Billy afterwards and Kyle was so upset he moved on to Lola. Everyone involved is going forward and the only reason to bring it up now would be to put the final nails in Jason Thompson’s coffin.

Billy has been going through an identity crisis for quite some time and if this were revealed, he would lose all. The only person who might blame Summer for what happened is Mariah and everyone else would lay the responsibility at the feet of John Abbott’s youngest son. He was older and supposed to be wiser and never should have given in to his niece/almost stepdaughter. Summer is is Nick’s daughter, Victor and Nikki’s granddaughter, Victoria’s niece and Jack’s stepdaughter. Billy was dating her mother at the time so this was pretty low for him.

If the powers that be truly desired to get rid of Jason Thompson, as the rumor mill suggests, the reveal of his night with Summer would be the way to go. Kyle knows the truth but has decided to leave it all in the past as did Phyllis. Victor, and Nick, would want Billy’s head on a platter while Victoria would be devastated. The writers are already crafting storylines that are pushing “Villy” further away from each other so there really is no point in bringing up this ancient history. Josh Griffith replaced Gina Tognoni with Michelle Stanford and last week the scenes from previous episodes showed Jack helping Phyllis give birth in the elevator. This took place prior to Summers leaving Y&R.

It looks like Griffith is attempting to erase Gina Tognoni’s life as Phyllis and if so, the stain of Billy and Summer will be gone. The current writing team appear to be trying to reunite Skyle so the shameful past more than likely will remain buried. Summer has grown and matured over the past year and proven herself invaluable at Jabot. To upset the apple cat at this point would be devastating for all concerned. It would also throw shade on Phyllis who got money out of the deal because of her daughter’s indescretion. The writers seem to be trying to repair the relationship with Phyllis and her daughter as well as bring Kyle and Summer back together.!Its not clear what the end game for Billy is but it does not look good.

The Twitterverse is united in believing that Phyllis as Summer’s mother should have ratted Billy out but st the time she clearly told him she did not want her daughter to suffer the humiliation. For once she put someone else first, instead of herself. Summer is impetuous and her mom realizes she is a chip off the old block. This is why Phyllis is now offering motherly advise. The direction of the storyline does not seem to indicate that this shameful secret will come to light but anything is possible, so stay tuned.
