About My Novel

My novel is a dystopian sci-fi set in the fire about a brutal reality TV show. Every Halloween, Contestants all over the world are teamed up to take down a 1000 flesh-eating robots. If they make it out of the show alive, they are promised a world of glory and fame, along with diplomatic immunity. The winning pair get a share of 2 billion USD.

About Squid Game

Squid Game is a show that needs no introduction. It was one of the most watched shows on Netflix. It centred around Gi-hun, a gambling addict with lots of debt being lured into a game where he can win money to clear his debt. The childhood games have a deadly twist where those who fail are exterminated. It’s one of my favourite shows on Netflix. I had been watching loads of videos on YouTube about which characters from different fandoms would survive and win a Squid Game challenge which inspired me to write this post.

Criteria

  • Players have to be between the ages of 18 and 58.
  • Players must mobilise independently without the use of aids.
  • Not be pregnant, or have not have given birth in the last 3 months.
  • Be in good physical health.

Because of his age and his brain tumour, Oh Il-nam would not be eligible to play in Game of Mass Destruction. However, in his younger days, I think he would have had a lot of fun playing Game of Mass Destruction.

If Han Mi-nyeo was telling the truth about having a newborn baby, she wouldn’t be able to play either. However throughout Squid Game, she shows no signs of someone who just gave birth. She was willing to die to seek revenge on a man who betrayed her. She seeing as she was able to have sex, smuggle stuff inside her. What is also strange is that she never mentions the baby again. Even fandom wikis say it’s possible she had a child, but nothing confirmed. we know she can be manipulative. So it brings me to the conclusion that she made the baby up. So she can play this game.

Essential Skillsets to Survive

  • Be able to work as a team. You need to trust your teammates. Cause if you are left on your own for too long, it could seal your doom.
  • The ability to adapt in case someone betrays you or in any event where you will need a new partner.
  • Creative thinking.
  • Charisma is essential so that people will like you enough to spare you.
  • Empathy. Showing compassion towards other contestants and the environment makes you less likely to be killed. In my novel, Rós is saved by the monkeys after she nursed a baby one back to health.
  • How Game of Mass Destruction works

    • Players are nominated to take part of the show. If they are part of the 20 selected, they have no choice but to play. The staff behind the game will do anything to drag them onto the Isle of Hakai to trap them into playing and signing the contract.
    • Contestants are paired up and have to work together to take down 1000 robots. Each robot they destroy gives the team 25 points. The game does not end until either all the robots are destroyed. To support contestants in their task, players are given randomised weapons and weather forecasts.
    • Contestants are initially paired up with people that they know or share a relationship with (can also be platonic). However, they can swap partners anytime.
    • If your partner does, you have 24 hours to find another partner or else you will die too.
    • Points are also awarded for killing other contestants and taking part in sexual acts. There are also mini games to play as well.
    • Each night, there is a designated spot where the robots will not attack you. If you find that spot you will get points.
    • Once the game is finished, the pair with the most points win a share of 2 billion USD.
    • Whilst there is military presence, they will not harm the contestants unless provoked.

    Who would do well?

Everyone who survived Red Light, Green Light would be capable of doing well in the game. Their debt would make them hungry for the money. They would team up like they did in Squid Game to survive until they had to face each other.

A lot of it would also depend on which weapons they receive. Some weapons are good whilst others are bogus. I think people would be stitches to see Deok-su’s reaction to finding a dildo in his bag. Regardless of what weapon he has, I can see Deok-su stealing weapons from people.

Sang-Woo would also excel. He would be able to sniff out the hidden sanctuaries whilst being smart enough not to kill anyone else until the robot count is low. He would constantly swap partners for his own gain and find the weak spots for the robots.

Who is most likely to survive?

In an ideal world, my favourite characters; Ali, Sae-Byeok and Ji-yeong would survive. I can see Gi-hun surviving too. Though in any survival game, there’s a 50/50 chance of living or dying.

The mathmetician guy that falls to the glass panels could survive because he can work out patterns and how many days he had left.

    Who would die?

Anyone who failed red light, green light would be easy to fall.

Deok-su uses brute force to get by in Squid Game. Like in Squid Game, his aragance could cause the death of him. He may think that the robots could be beaten by sheer force alone and fall at the last hurdle. He can also provoke the military by killing wildlife and eating it. The military and their commander are devout vegans.

Even though she would excel in using her body for points, Han Mi-nyeo would struggle to find a partner if she is the odd one out. In the marble games, nobody wanted to pair up with her.

With a lot of the antagonists in Squid Game, their selfishness, greed and refusal to work as a team would be their biggest downfall.

Who is most likely to win?

Sae-Byeok’s determination to survive and win would give her the advantage. Being a North Korean refugee would give her the experience of being on the run. From the little time they had together, it is clear that she and Ji-yeong would have worked excellently together.

Gi-hun would also capable of winning too. He’s shown he’s compassionate and caring despite his many flaws.

In my novel, none of the survivors were eligible for the purity bonus, thus it was not awarded. For the purity bonus, one or two of the people in the pair must survive the game without killing or having sex with anybody. Gi-hun would be capable of pulling this off easy. Even at times when he’s on the edge, he’s showed that he hasn’t got it in him to kill anybody.
