Will Ferrell Admits What We All Knew: Mariah Carey Was Cut from 'The House' for Diva Behavior

When it comes to her cinematic cameo appearances, Mariah Carey takes herself very seriously. And the upcoming comedy The House is no exception.

The singing sensation was originally supposed to have a brief appearance in the film, but her scenes ultimately didn't make the final cut. Rumors have circulated as to why her character didn't end up on the big screen, and in a recent appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, the movie's star Will Ferrell shed some light on the awkward situation.

After confirming that she was cut, Meyers coyly asked if there were any particular demands she made. Ever the professional, Ferrell responded diplomatically:

"There were suggestions that weren't executed. She was on our set and, um, things happened. Things happened and didn't happen."

Ferrell recalled being in his on-set trailer, seemingly waiting for #MariahCarey to finish filming her part and not being able to film his scenes as her scene ran overtime:

"Let's just put it this way: At about midnight, I got a knock on my trailer and said, 'You can just go home. We're not going to get to you.'"

Other Stars Of The House Were Not Fans Of Carey's 'Borderline Abusive' Behavior

#WillFerrell's co-star in the film Cedric Yarbrough took to Facebook in a now-deleted post to express his frustration with the superstar's apparent on-set behavior. He provides insight into the funny cameo that was written for her and details his experience with the "unprofessional" and "borderline abusive" Carey:

Yeah, a real funny cameo was SUPPOSED to happen in the new film #TheHouse with the superstar Mariah Carey. But it was ruined by superstar Mariah Carey. ... When Mariah finally showed up she refused to match the stunt. ‘Darling, I would never do it that way…’. I heard her say those exact words. ... This lady was unprofessional & borderline abusive to our director, who tried his best to appease her every wish. ... “This kind of behavior just isn’t cool.”

Comedian Rob Huebel also co-stars in the film and echoes Yarbrough's sentiments about Carey's diva-like behavior. According to Huebel, she made some "amazing requests" that included "all white roses" in her trailer as well as stuffed animals, all lambs. He tells Entertainment Weekly of a bizarre moment with Carey during filming in which she believed her character would be able to deflect bullets "like Wonder Woman":

“She was hired to sing one song, and she was like, ‘You guys, I don’t want to sing that song.’ They’re like, ‘We hired you to sing this song.' So then they were going to do this bit where they shoot her, I think, and they kill her — in the movie. Not in real life. But she didn’t want that. She was like, ‘I don’t think my character would get killed by bullets. What if I deflected them like Wonder Woman?’”
