Who Is a Better Lawyer, Matt Murdock or Jennifer Walters?

For Daredevil and She-Hulk, crimefighting doesn’t stop when they take off their costumes - they also make sure justice is served in the courtroom.

Matt Murdock, better known as Daredevil, is currently one of the more underappreciated MCU characters. He does have his own Daredevil Netflix series, albeit its future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is unclear, especially in light of the arrival of Disney+. What is known, however, is that Matt Murdock has joined the MCU after being introduced in Spider-Man: No Way Home, when he played the part of Peter Parker's attorney.

In his own Daredevil series on Netflix, he played the role of a lawyer during the day and a vigilante at night. But we still know that he spent a good time of his life prosecuting criminals as a lawyer. And his story as a lawyer is given more emphasis in the comics.

One of the best law schools in the United States, Columbia, is where Matt Murdock obtained his degree. Even though he was blind, he never let it get in the way of his ability to handle cases because he was able to employ his enhanced senses both as a vigilante and a lawyer.

He co-founded the Nelson & Murdock law firm with his close buddy Foggy Nelson, which, despite not being the largest in New York, was nonetheless able to offer top-notch legal assistance. However, Murdock lacks some of the resources that other attorneys employed by larger law firms do.

The likes of Spider-Man, the Human Torch, and other clients who rank very high on the popularity list have been represented by Matt Murdock during his tenure practising law. He also defended Black Widow, whose innocence he was able to establish despite the prejudice towards Russians. The dismissal of the murder allegations against Black Widow is evidence of his skill as a lawyer.

The greatest strength of Matt Murdock as a lawyer is his enhanced senses. He may not be able to sight or read, but he is still able to detect deception with his other senses. This has shown to be quite helpful when it comes to cross-examining a witness or an accused person since he can always come up with a strategy to show whether or not they are lying in order to persuade the jury of their guilt.

Jennifer Walters

Jennifer Walters had a successful career as a lawyer prosecuting criminals before she became She-Hulk. She-Hulk has the ability to maintain mental control anytime she transforms, therefore she was able to continue practising law even after she turned into She-Hulk.

She is employed by a sizable company in the comics known as the law offices of Goodman, Lieber, Kurtzberg & Holliway, which focuses on superhuman law. As a result, in terms of She-role Hulk's as a lawyer for superheroes in comic books, the series appears to be on the correct track.

She has worked on many various cases as a result of her focus on superhuman law, including the libel lawsuit J. Jonah Jameson brought against Spider-Man. She also worked for Starfox, who was accused of taking advantage of a married woman by exploiting his ability to manipulate other people's emotions.

But Jennifer Walters’s best case would have to be the one that involved an old Captain America when a wrongful death claim was filed against him. She was the one who represented him in court as the prosecution side was represented by none other than Matt Murdock. Guess who won the case? Jennifer Walters herself.

Matt Murdock vs. Jennifer Walters: Who’s The Better Lawyer?

Now, determining who of Matt Murdock and Jennifer Walters is the better lawyer is a very challenging subject to discuss because the victor of a case isn't always the better lawyer. It may be true that Walters was successful in establishing Steve Rogers' innocence in Murdock's eyes. However, there are a few things to consider while deciding which of them is superior.

It is important to note that Murdock works for a small firm that he and his friend started. That means that he doesn’t have the same kind of resources that a bigger firm has. In that regard, Walters has a natural advantage here.

Even though Matt Murdock has an advantage over Jennifer Walters due to his enhanced senses, the jury will always determine a case based on its merits, therefore this advantage won't necessarily help him win every case. As a result, it still rests on how well the attorney can convey the relevant facts and supporting evidence.

Recalling the Captain America case, Jennifer Walters's efforts on his behalf as a defence attorney helped to establish his innocence. But he also admitted that he wanted Matt Murdock to bring charges against him because he wanted a prosecutor who wouldn't mince words. However, he didn't want to lose, so he picked Walters as his defence attorney.

According to Steve Rogers' opinion of the two, Walters is the superior attorney in that sense. Rogers is an excellent judge of character, but we must keep in mind that there are many actors in a case and that the outcome is not always reliant on who of the two lawyers is the better one. As a result, we are unable to affirmatively state that Jennifer Walters is a better attorney to Matt Murdock.
