White Widow meets up with Darchon to discover the fate of her father and mother. Unfortunately for her, she finds that to find the answers she seeks, there's Hell to pay... literally!

White Widow continues her quest to free the soul of her father from a threat of truly biblical proportions. Can they escape from hell itself?

This is a two-part story and it starts in White Widow #6 and ends in Darchon #3 so I decided to do a review for both together since with my process it didn’t make sense to start with the ending. There is a reason I love Absolute Comics Group and this is precisely why. Currently White Widow, Gabby or Gabrielle, is on a crossover book tour tying all the books into one single universe and I love that because this isn’t some sweeping crossover epic, it’s just Gabby meeting and having adventures with the various characters who make up this universe. It is a smart sensible way to tie them all together without really being disruptive to the natural flow of the books.

After her adventure with Slyce and the girls it’s off to the next stop on her journey thanks to the information Slyce gave her. The way this is being told is great! The story & plot development that we see through how the sequence of events unfold as well as how the reader learns information is laid out extremely well. The way the story flows from one book to the other is a natural progression and it doesn’t miss a beat so it really is exceptionally well done. The character development is phenomenal! Aside from Regina whom I absolutely adore and that whole distracted driving bit which is something everyone should heed how we see Darchon and Gabby throughout not to mention their adversary are all fleshed out beautifully thanks the dialogue, character interaction and how they act and react to the situations and circumstances they encounter. The pacing is superb and as it takes us through the pages revealing the myriad of twists & turns along the way we’re treated to one heck of an interesting tale.

I really like the way we see these being structured and how the layers within the story continue to grow, strengthen, evolve and emerge as new characters and new information is revealed. How everything works together to create the story’s ebb & flow as well as how it moves the story forward is so well achieved.

The artwork throughout is really pretty impressive. While Jamie’s work may stand out a tad more the book is pretty seamless in terms of style and how the interiors look and feel. The standard of work that we see is great and it’s nice to see it holds up throughout the line of books. The linework is fantastic and how we see the varying weights being utilised to create the detail work is really rather impressive. Backgrounds in Widow are utilised better and Darchon which is a shame considering a different realm, hell, allows for the creativity and imagination to really shine, regardless, we get solid depth perception, that sense of scale and the overall sense of size and scope to the story extremely well. The utilisation of the page layouts and how we see the angles and perspective in the panels show some remarkably talented eyes for storytelling. The colour work that we see is stunning. The various hues and tones within the colours being utilised to create the shading, highlights and shadow work showcases a sensational eye for colour and how to make it work effectively under any given circumstance. Like light sources or to change the mood, tone and feel of the moment.

These are solidly written books that showcase some interesting characters and while they may be created to thrill little boys, yes grown straight men are still little boys, they have depth and complexity that appeal to such a broad range of readers, genders and ages. If you aren’t reading these then I suggest you start because there is a whole range of titles out there and surely one is bound to be for you. I do however highly recommend, can get a higher recommendation really, to read this cross universe tour that the White Widow is on so you can get a feel for what these are all really about.
