What the Heck is This Show Everyone is Talking about on TikTok?

Ships of the Northern Fleet on TikTok

If you are one of those that like to mindlessly scroll the For You section on TikTok you might have recently come across a trend that has left you scratching your brain.

Hundreds are adding their take on a very old yet favorite show called Ships of the Northern Fleet. Originally a steampunk novel turned into a TV show; it's held in the hearts of many around the world as a childhood treasure.

Cast members have been discovered years later, theme songs revisited, and re-enactments of cherished lines are popping up all over TikTok.

My personal favorite was when the character Alice was discovered among the throng of TikTok content creators.

Along with recitations of witty lines, she has also included memorable props from the show and *spoiler* the reason for her character’s tragic death.

If you're not familiar with SotNF you might switch over to google for a quick search of this incredibly popular show that you somehow missed. The thing is, Google is going to turn up Nothing!

Now don't panic, the internet is not broken!

Ships of the Northern Fleet is a completely made up spoof show!

It started with this amazing creative genius: @redhoodwholaughs in late January 2021. Quickly it took off and everyone has been joining in creating a whole new world with its own series of books and a world-famous TV show to follow.

As it has developed it has molded into a sort of reincarnation of the much-beloved Firefly series that only had one season before it was canceled. Like Firefly it has developed an almost instantaneous cult following and subculture.

I wouldn’t be surprised if you start to see some Ships of the Northern Fleet character renditions at the next Comic-con!

The real question we all want answered:

Will this end up being a real series?

I think I speak for everyone when I say: I really freaking hope so!

If someone doesn’t start writing the screenplay or at least the series of novels for this epic idea in the near future, I’m sure a great many people will feel as if humanity has failed them altogether.

Of course, this isn’t the only time that social media and creative spoofs have spurred on books and shows. In fact, the outrage over the sudden canceling of Firefly led to a full-length motion picture to wrap the story up.

Not exactly the continuation of the series that diehard fans were looking for, but certainly better than just leaving it open-ended.

Lucifer is another example of a show that was canceled only to be bought out by another production studio and brought back to life all by the wild mob demands of social media fans.

Is there really Ships of the Northern Fleet?

Surprisingly if you did do a google search of SofNF you did come up with quite a bit of useless information, just nothing about a show.

Ships of the Northern Fleet is actually something in real life. It is a fleet of Russian Army warships established in 1993 by the Soviet Union and known as the Northern Flotilla.

During the Soviet Era, it operated more than 200 submarines. As far as I could tell, not a lot of ships- mostly subs.

Its main job was to patrol and protect the Arctic seas along the Northern Russian coast for the then Soviet government.

The fleet still exists today! Which might make some conspiracy theorist wonder if @redhoodwholaughs is trying to point us to some top-secret Russian infiltration into American culture and politics...

Either way...

If it's just for fun, or maybe a top-secret darknet trend to expose Russian collusion into American affairs...there are some pretty awesome threads to follow down this rabbit hole!

Best of all, now you can rest easy, assured that google search didn't fail you, Ships of the Northern Fleet is a complete spoof...

That is until someone decides to make it a real show!
