Hullo! Here are some celebrity actions that made the news week :

Priyanka Chopra flouts UK lockdown

Actress Priyanka Chopra was caught flouting UK lockdown rules on January 6th. The actress who is currently in London with her husband Nick Jonas, filming a movie, was pictured visiting a salon with her dog and her mother.

Police attended the salon after she went in and were said to have given the salon owner a telling off. The actress left the salon shortly after.

The UK is currently in Tier 4 lockdown and no salons are supposed to be open, as they are considered non-essential. This is coupled with the rule prohibiting household mixing.

The actress’ spokesperson released the following statement after the news got out, stating that she did not break any rules: 'Following government guidance, Priyanka Chopra Jonas’ hair was coloured by Josh Wood for the purpose of the film she is currently shooting. The salon was opened privately for the production and everyone involved had been tested and followed both the DCMS working guidelines and the film production regulations. As per Film London and current government advice, by continuing to follow the approved COVID-19 guidance, Film and TV production can continue in the Capital and locations can continue to accommodate shoots and recess that are carried out in-line with the guidance.'

There is however no exception set for hair salons for private consultations, exceptions are only in place for those salons providing services to those with disabilities.

Mr Bean – Actor Rowan Atkinson – comments on ‘Cancel Culture’

Rowan Atkinson, the actor popularly known for his role as ‘Mr Bean’ in the titular sitcom weighed in on cancel culture, which seems to have become a norm in the current climate.

In his words: “The problem we have online is that an algorithm decides what we want to see, which ends up creating a simplistic, binary view of society. It becomes a case of either you’re with us or against us. And if you’re against us, you deserve to be ‘cancelled.’ It’s important that we’re exposed to a wide spectrum of opinion, but what we have now is the digital equivalent of the medieval mob roaming the streets looking for someone to burn. So, it is scary for anyone who’s a victim of that mob and it fills me with fear about the future”.
