Wedding Season - A Netflix Movie Review

Expecting it to be one of the usual rom-coms, I was proved wrong by 'Wedding Season'

Weddings make you crazy, but they are a celebration of life.

Following its proposal, Wedding Season appeared on Netflix in 2022. Asha does not believe in love. Constantly pressured to find love and marry by her parents, Asha and Ravi pretend to date during the summer of weddings. However, they find a much deeper connection.

Expecting it to be one of the usual rom-coms, I was actually proved wrong by Wedding Season. First, I am so glad that we are getting more films dedicated to culture. Wedding Season signifies an impactful message to parents and their kids.

Only going along with a relationship as a ruse, Asha and Ravi find themselves opening up about issues they never realized. Pallavi Sharda and Suraj Sharma did an outstanding job working together, most notably in their big confrontation.

Asha’s reserved behavior got on my nerves at first, but that’s all part of her character. Work has always been a big part of her life, so much to the point that it’s all she does during weddings. I liked her growth, even coming to terms with the story of her presentation.

The actors had great chemistry. Arianna Afsar, Sean Kleier, Vanna Sood, Rizwan Manji, and Manoj Sood were all wonderful in the study of their characters. Their relationship felt real, like the sibling dynamic between Asha and Priya.

It’s a separate story entirely, but the inclusion of Nick (Kleier) was a strong part of Wedding Season. Having not grown up in the Indian culture of the family, he still makes an effort to understand it, along with the language.

Wedding Season is not just one story. Your career is valid. As much as you should keep work a small part of life, you conquer big steps in the long run. James (Damian Thompson) made a point by saying that you should never let opportunities pass. They’ll never come back.

Growth is a big part of life. Wedding Season focused on breaking away from traditions. Just like Asha, I was against her mother (Veena Sood) for always pressuring her daughter to find love and not break traditions. As the parent, lessons learned from your child are for the better.

Communication is valid in a family. Parents vs. happiness is something that all viewers can relate to. It shouldn’t have to be a choice. To parents, let your kids guide themselves, especially in their adult years.

One issue that comes up in the story is Ravi lying to his parents for over a decade about what he’s been doing with his life. Lying is the worst thing possible. In both relationships and family, be honest. Lying about your feelings is not going to send you down the right path.

Wedding locations and attire were gorgeous. That was one of my favorite parts. In every culture, a wedding has a unique attribute. You can learn a lot about wedding culture in this film. I felt like I was at each wedding, dancing and eating all the delicious food.

Tom Dey was genuine in all portrayals, culture, and the message of the story. This film has heart. It’s funny and has several thoughtful messages. Good attention was spent on dialogue. Conversations are important in the dating world. Be happy with what you want to do.

Wedding Season has a few romantic comedy cliches that have been used across several films. Except, it’s used differently, choosing to center around Indian culture.

The film is worth checking out on Netflix. It made me laugh and it was heartwarming. Go watch it on your next Friday night.
