Warbound, an immortal anti-hero on a quest for revenge. Or a delusional violent super vigilante? Villains fear him. Heroes don't trust him. Now, locked in a mental asylum for superpowers people, his only chance at freedom is a session with Dr. Kendra Jones. What truths will be revealed?

I was a big fan of the first issue and I was excited when I was asked if I wanted to review this one as well. I am glad to see we are picking up where we left off as Dr. Kendra Jones is still interviewing Warbound. Now I did get the vibe last issue that there was more to her than meets the eye and I was hoping we’d learn more about her this issue and it’s nice to know that is indeed the case. The way that this is laid out before us with Warbound’s origin tied into how he ended up in this mental asylum. That the two are and aren’t exclusive to one another is a nice touch and I am impressed with the way that this whole plays out including the fact that there is still so much to the man who is Warbound than meets the eye.

I am enjoying the way that this is being told. The story & plot development that we see through how the sequence of events unfold as well as how the reader learns information is presented exceptionally well. The character development that we see through the dialogue, the character interaction as well as how they act and react to the situations and circumstances they encounter does wonders in fleshing them out as people. The pacing is superb and as it takes us through the pages revealing more and more of the story we find ourselves starting to really like this man and sympathise with his predicament.

How we see this being structured and how the layers within the story continue to grow, evolve and strengthen is extremely nice to see. The layers contain the characterisation and the twists within the story and whether they work with the main arc or simply swirl around it they add this great depth and complexity to the story. How everything works together to create the story’s ebb & flow as well as how it moves the story forward is achieved exceedingly well.

The interiors here are really nice. The linework is strong, clean, crisp and confident and how we see the varying weights being utilised to create the detail work is exceedingly well rendered. Now mind you the detail work is amazing and in Dr. Jones other persona it so well detailed and so well executed she is such a joy to see. I would like to know how Gaia, who has one breast bigger than the other, is able to basically wear a sports bra to fight crime in when she’s that well endowed? I do wish we would see more backgrounds being utilised, the docks had some nice ones and while they are in a room talking we just don’t get that enclosed space feeling that we should. The utilisation of the page layouts and how we see the angles and perspective in the panels show an wonderfully talented eye for storytelling. Th colour work is brilliantly rendered. I love how the various hues and tones within the colours are being utilised to create the shading, highlights and shadow work, the colour choices how we see the fabric and when it moves it just comes to life with such dimension incredibly well.

So far we’ve seen just how complicated a man Warbound truly is and this is thanks to the writing and characterisation and add in these delightful interiors to the mix and you’ve got one heck of a unique little series going on here. This is why I’m a fan of indie or small press publishing houses because you find diverse characters and truly gifted up and coming creators.
