Victor Cassadine resurfaced this week on GENERAL HOSPITAL and kidnapped Liesl Obrecht. Charles Shaunessy is now portraying the evil genius and if he looks familiar it's because he has been in the role of Shane Donovan on and off of DAYS OF OUR LIVES since the 1980s. He was also Mr. Fine on THE NANNY. Some viewers might not be up to speed regarding the relationship between Obrecht and Victor so let's take a stroll down memory lane.

This bad guy first showed up on the ABC soap in 1981 portrayed by Thao Penghalis as part of the Ice Princess storyline. He briefly dated Tiffany Hill who later married Sean Donnelly. His brother Mikkos was married to Helena Cassadine and Spencer used his great uncle's name when he first returned to Port Charles and met Trina. Some GENERAL HOSPITAL viewers were wondering if there was a reason Victor was being brought up and this time and now they know why.

Mikkos Cassadinee

Mikkos, Victor and a third brother Tony were going to use the Aztec diamond to freeze the world and takeover. They were stopped by Frisco and Felicia Jones, along with Robert Scorpio. Victor's brothers were killed and he was sent to prison where he allegedly died but in 2014 Thao Penghalis reprised the role and there was a twist. It was revealed at that time that Victor had known Liesl Obrecht (Kathlene Gati) and had a past relationship with her.

Gati joined the GENERAL HOSPITAL cast in 2012 and during the two years prior to Victor's return she was obsessed with Ceasar Faison's obsession with Anna Devane. When she finally came face to face with him Obrecht told Victor that he was the father of her son. This was done on Nathan's behalf to keep the madman from killing his own flesh and blood but DNA later indicated that Faison was the biological dad of the police detective.

Tony Cassadine

Victor felt betrayed by his former lover and soon after he was presumed to have died in an explosion at the clinic where he was conducting scientific experiments on humans. Unknown to Liesl, Victor has been keeping tabs on her every movement and he set in motion an elaborate plan to gain access to her. It was revealed that there really was no conference in St. Lucia and that the private jet chartered by Scott was all a set up by Victor and his henchmen. Scott was strapped to a parachute and thrown from the plane and Obrechht is now being held in an undisclosed location.

Victor made himself known to his prisoner on Thursday and admitted that she was growing too close to Scott Baldwin and he had to do something about it. He seems to be as delusional about Obrecht as she once was about Faison. Spoilers are not yet giving any clues on how Liesl will escape from her prison but GENERAL HOSPITAL viewers have no doubt that she will. Perhaps Scott might find some way to become a hero and rescue the woman he loves.

Obrecht lied to protect her son.

Just before the plane was hijacked and they both were overcome by chloroform, Scotty told Liesel that he loved her but she was already unconscious. No one knows how long this will go on or what Victor Cassadine is really up to. Fans of the ABC soap are saying on social media that they believe there is an ulterior motive for the return of Helena's brother in law that perhaps does not involve Obrecht. Be sure to stay tuned to GENERAL HOSPITAL to find out what Victor Cassadine is really up to.
