Total Fangirl

Sunday afternoon, Lisa is sitting at the kitchen table scrolling on her tablet through social media. A few friends open on her chat, when a small ad opens on the bottom corner reading "LARP Live Action Role Play". Raising an eyebrow, Lisa types in her group chat "What is LARP?"

"Are you kidding?"

"No, there's an ad that popped up on my screen."

"Live Action Role Play. It's where people go out to the park and roll play things like Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter or other movie types. "

"Oh cool, well the Ad says there's an event in the park next weekend, you guys want to check it out?"

"Cool, I'm in."

"Ya me too"

"Nice, tomorrow at lunch we'll get a few more people and make a game plan."

"I like it"

"Ok, see you guys at school."

"TTFN"

"Night Ya'll"

With a grin Lisa turns off her tablet, plugs it into the charger on the counter and walks up to her room.

At lunch the following day, Lisa and a handful of friends sit at a table in the middle of the cafeteria talking animatedly. "So, what do guys think we should do for this LARP thingy?"

"Lord of the Rings"

"Dungeons and Dragon"

"Harry Potter, we could play Quidditch"

"X-men" someone yells from across the table.

"X-men?" a few kids ask at the same time.

"Sorry, I was reading the comics last night."

"Wait" Lisa says with a bit of excitement, "That might not be a bad idea, no one else would even think of it."

"Well, I can be Professor X, my dad has an old wheel chair in the garage."

"I've got a trench coat I could use for Gambit."

"And I can get a blue onesie to make a Beast."

"Ok, it's settled, were going to the Park as the X-men."

Over the next few days Lisa and her friends planned out who was going to be who and gave ideas on each other's outfits.

Friday afternoon, Lisa is up in her room doing a final check on her Rouge outfit when her dad calls from the living room, "Lisa can you come to the living room, I think the remote has walked off again?"

"Down in a minute dad"

As Dad is pulling off the couch cushions, Lisa walks in. Looking up dad pauses what he's doing and stares, "Um Hunny, isn't it a little early for Halloween?"

"Dad, it's for our LARP group tomorrow."

Just then mom walks in the front door. "Oh dear, your costume came out really nice."

Dad looks up at the mom raising an eyebrow.

"I'll explain later"

"Thanks, have you seen the remote?"

"I think your other daughter put in the fridge."

Mom puts her bag down on the side table, dad stuffs the cushions back in place and walks to the kitchen. Lisa heads back upstairs to her room.

Saturday midday, Lisa and her mom climb into the SUV.

"So how many of you are there?"

"Six"

"Good thing we have the SUV."

"Ya, plus we have a wheelchair."

As the SUV pulls into the parking lot, Lisa spots a small group of people walking to the northside of the park dressed in what looks like a Lord of the Rings characters.

"Um, are we at the right park?"

"This is the midtown park" Pulling into a parking space.

Lisa turns her head looking to the kids sitting in the back. "Um, why are they dressed like that and were dressed like this? Are there other groups dressed from different fandoms?"

"Hey, I said Lord of the"

"Quiet you." Lisa shouts to the boy sitting by the window.

Mom asks "So, what do you kids want to do? Wanna get out here or maybe go to another park?"

Lisa speaks up, "I say we get out here, we have the same rights to play here."

"Ok, out you go, I'll be here reading my book."

The doors open and Rouge, Beast, Storm, Gambit, Wolverine climb out whilst Professor X gets his wheelchair out of the back.

The group walks into the park, spotting a table were a man and woman sit, they walk up and tell the lady there here for the LARP.

"Um, are you sure you kids are in the right park?"

"Yes, this is where the ad said the LARP was taking place."

"Well yes, but this LARP is for Dungeons and Dragons."

Wolverine say " I said"

Lisa cuts him off, "Well the ad didn't say a specific style."

The girl, with a bewildered look on her face turns to look at the man on his phone.

"Huh, she's right." Holding up his phone to show her the ad.

"OK, here a paper with the rules and regulations, you guys are going to be on the blue team Here are your arm bands, there gathering on the North East corner by the fountain."

With a smile on her face Lisa takes the arm bands. "Thank you"

As the sun starts to get lower in the sky, a group of Warriors, Wizards, Elves run into the middle of the park with a small group of the X-men mixed in.
