Tom Holland Responds To Rumors About His Spider-Man Future

Tom Holland is known for not be able to keep secrets when it comes to Spider-Man or really any kind of Marvel Cinematic Universe film. In fact, it is well known that for Avengers: Endgame, they had to really be careful with what they told Tom about the film because they were worried he might spoil it, as he has been known to do with other movies in the past.

Marvel recently released that they are going to create a new trilogy for the character of Spider-Man after the current trilogy ends with Spider-Man: No Way Home. The announcement created a lot of excitement among fans of Spider-Man, but also many questions. In the past, when the one Spider-Man trilogy is done, there is a new face attached to the character of Spider-Man. In the present era, Tobey Maguire was the first, and Andrew Garfield was the second. Tom Holland is the current face of Spider-Man after Spider-Man was officially acquired by Disney from Sony. Questions arose as to whether or not Tom Holland would continue to be the face of this reiteration of Spider-Man.

When speaking on a French talk show Quotidien, Tom Holland addressed the rumors that have been running around since Disney’s announcement of yet another trilogy of Spider-Man stories:

"Listen, all I'll say is we have some very, very exciting things to be talking about. I don't know what those things are or what they will transpire to mean. But it looks like it's an incredibly bright future ahead, and as I've said before, Spider-Man will forever live in me."

Of course when Tom Holland was initially asked if or what his role would be in this new announcement trilogy he answered with a nervous laugh:

“Next question."

With the current way that Marvel and the Spider-Man trilogies have worked, it just makes sense that Spider-Man: No Way Home would be Tom Holland’s last Spider-Man appearance (or movie) much to the dismay of many fans of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man. However, with his reaction to the question, does he know more than he is letting on? Is he hinting at something?

Spider-Man producer Amy Pascal stated in an interview recently that there is another Spider-Man trilogy in the works…or at least planned:

“This is not the last movie that we are going to make with Marvel – [this is not] the last Spider-Man movie. We are getting ready to make the next Spider-Man movie with Tom Holland and Marvel. We're thinking of this as three films, and now we're going to go on to the next three. This is not the last of our MCU movies."

This is definitely exciting news for Spider-Man fans. The Spider-Man trilogy story is far from over according to Pascal. Although, whether this means it will be a continuation of the current Spider-Man storyline or a new start of the Spider-Man story like what Andrew Garfield did with Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man and Tom Holland did with Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man, we do not know yet. With Spider-Man being officially a part of the Disney/Marvel Cinematic Universe and not Sony, there is a good chance it will not be a revamp like we have seen in the past but another set of stories, perhaps straight from the comics, that will continue on the current story as opposed to starting it all over yet again.

Of course, there is still debate about this supposed new Spider-Man trilogy. Amy Pascal’s comments have united a bunch of speculation in the Spider-Man and Marvel fanbase. At the same time, Sony insiders have said that the studio does not actually currently have any “official plans” for another Spider-Man trilogy. Of course, from past experience with Spider-Man “reboots” and with what Tom Holland said in an interview about Spider-Man: No Way Home being the end of the franchise, there is still a lot of doubt as to if a new trilogy (or continuation) of the Spider-Man story and Holland remaining Spider-Man will even be a real thing.

Tom Holland has said:

"I think if we were lucky enough to dive into these characters again, you'd be seeing a very different version. It would no longer be the Homecoming trilogy. We would give it some time and try to build something different and tonally change the films. Whether that happens or not, I don't know. But we were definitely treating [No Way Home] like it was coming to an end, and it felt like it."

While the future of Spider-Man may still be up in the air, fans still have Spider-Man: No Way Home to look forward to. This most anticipated Marvel movie in a long time comes out in theaters on December 17.
