Tika Sumpter and Nicholas James are newlyweds
The couple met on the set of The Haves and Have Nots began dating and now are married.
Congratulations are in order
Soap fans know Tika Sumpter for portraying Layla Williamson on ABC's One Life to Live. The actress gained more notoriety when she took on the role of trobled and vindictive Candace Young on the OWN series The Haves and Have Nots. It was on this set is where the actress met Nicholas James who portrayed the psychotic police officer Justin Gabriel and Tika fell for him right away. James was somewhat reluctant but the two began dating in 2015.
Their daughter Ella was born the following year and many HAHN fans probably had no idea the couple was dating or that Tika was expecting. The OWN television series often had characters who were not on screen for several episodes and fans wondered where they were. Candace not being front and center during this time would not have been a big deal because this seemed to be a pattern..
After two years of dating, Nick and Tika became engaged. The couple waas married on Saturday, May 14, 2022, in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. According to Brides Sumpter gave this exclusive statement. "We're excited to be together and continue the journey," "We both walked down the aisle with clear eyes, knowing that the wedding wasn't just for the party. It was really for us."
All about the wedding
Sumpter revealed that both the ceremony and reception were held at Chileno Bay Resorts & Residences, Auberge Resorts Collection. She said they chose this location because of its proximity to California where they currently reside. Another factor was that the newlyweds desired their guests (a small number of family and friends) to enjoy a vacation experience.
Tika said she and Nick wanted everyone "to have a good time and celebrate this long, amazing journey that we've had," She added that she was not necessarily planning a destination wedding and this came to mind because one of the first trips she and James went on out of the country was Anguilla, and she believes Mexico definitely has a beautiful, island vibe, so Cabo was chosen.
