Game of thrones and the age of prequels

We have entered the age of prequels, but how long have we actually been here. It’s not the first time we have strayed into these kinds of film and tv. Smallville, starwars, house of the dragon, the rings of power, fantastic beasts. All prequels or used prequel formatting from the most popular franchises. And often these shows and moves leave behind major and minor plot holes, often some are created just to fill in a gap left behind by its previous movies. Often they are just cash grabs that do nothing but make the plot holes worse. These are just some of the things I find myself pondering in times of boredom.

Often I use my time in the shower to ponder subjects. Recently I was thinking about how they left game of thrones. The iron thrones nothing more than a molten puddle on what’s left of the throne room floor, a cripple a king, a divided realm, our favourite characters punished and exiled, or dead. Not to mention the story lines that were never wrapped up or fully explained. The way game of thrones left a bad taste in a lot of mouths. Though the ending isn’t something any of us hoped for I can still see a future for the universe. And it can be explained simply by calling it the Starwars template.

I’m not saying that the show is like starwars, though if you try hard enough you could conceivably find close similarities. I am just saying that the show could still have life if it follows the same time line pattern that starwars used.

For instance, when a new hope was released, the empire was at the height of power, very little back ground information is given to the audience through out the film, in the second it is revealed that darth vader is Luke’s father and in the third Luke defeats the empire, well vader defeated the empire. The the second trillirgy told the origin story if darth vader as Anikan. The series was released 456123 and it told a unique story in a unique way.

With game of thrones,we already have house of the dragon for a prequel series, and who knows what we may learn through out the series. Game of thrones had a fair amount of pre Easter eggs through the show that spoke of the war tittle dance of the dragons. And even in some sense spoiled the ending for us as viewers.

I would assume that it is safe to say that HBO may follow the same format as starwars, releasing prequels that fill in the gaps that were left behind by game of thrones. It would definitely be the right financial move. The idea of saving good story content for later use in other shows. A tactical thing to do to ensue a long running profitable franchise. Though some times they cancel shows too, even if they are popular, and almost never do we get to see it finished, the only excepting I can think of is the firefly tv series and the movie serenity.

We already know that the snow show is happening, and rumers about a series covering agons conquest and another about the wars leading up to the Baratheon rebellion.

So as a reader and a fan of game of thrones, what are your thoughts on the matter. Do you feel a prequel series is something we need to fill the gaps. Do you think game of thrones should just be left alone.
