Earth-Omega's Dragonfly and Earth-Alpha's Dragonflyman battle Earth-Zeta's Man-Dragonfly! Could a comic book be any more like a comic book? Plus, illustrated prose, AHOY-style!

I’ve loved this series from the first issue ever put out and I still love it just as much with this latest one and to see the transformation these characters have gone through has been sensational. I was happy as a clam when the two Dragonflymen switched earths but now with Man-Dragonfly and how the whole of the Multiverse has opened up to take this new levels of crazed insanity, whether that’s good or bad is in the eye of the beholder, is sheerly delightful. I also don’t know why I hadn’t put it all together sooner, I guess I’d just been enjoying this too much to think of Zeta for would it would be, but shame on me for not thinking my way through this until we get to the end of this issue. Though I have to admit the man has some of the snazziest gadgetry around that makes him look way cool.

I am a huge fan of the way that this is being told. The story & plot development that we see through how the sequence of events unfold as well as how the reader learns information is presented exceptionally well. The character development we see through the dialogue, the character interaction as well as how they act and react to the situations and circumstances which they encounter continue to flesh them out beautifully. The pacing is superb and as it takes us through the pages revealing more and more of the story, the revelations and the twists we’re glued to the page.

I appreciate the way that we see this being structured and how the layers within the story continue to grow, evolve, strengthen and emerge. That we have existing avenues and new ones opening up mean the possibilities are endless and with the layers containing the characterisation, those twists & turns and more they manage to add this extra depth and complexity to the story. How everything works together to create the story’s ebb & flow as well as how it moves the story forward is achieved exceptionally well.

The interiors here are utterly spectacular! I am super impressed with the same character who has three separate designs depending on the universe and their attitude. Jamal does an absolutely amazing job with this and laying down the pencils with how we see the three versions of Stinger as well, though interestingly enough there’s only one Lady Dragonflyman. The linework is exquisite and how we see the varying weights and techniques being utilised to create this level & quality of detail work is astonishingly well rendered. How we see backgrounds utilised throughout makes me a happy camper and how they work within the composition of the panels to bring us depth perception, a sense of scale and the overall sense of size and scope to the story is magnificent. The utilisation of the page layouts and how we see the angles and perspective in the panels show a remarkably talented eye for storytelling. Also that someone else inked the pencils and it all looks this dang good shows the talent and skill involved in the interiors here. The colour work is brilliantly rendered. How we see the various hues and tones within the colours being utilised to create the shading, highlights and shadow work shows such an amazing eye for colour as does the neon effect of the uniform and his wings.

This just keeps getting better and better with each new arc that comes out. Sure it’s a bit tongue-in-cheek but it really does more than spotlight the state of the industry and how silly it can be as it also shows that there’s still room for some absolutely stunning writing, characterisation and artwork to be had to bring it all to life.
