After over 3 years of waiting, we finally have a trailer from the next Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them film. Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them: The Secrets of Dumbledore is set to release in April 2022. The trailer, which was released on December 13, comes much later in the film’s progress and closer to the release date than any of the other trailers before it. MuggleNet speculates that this could be for marketing purposes since the previous film Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them: The Crimes of Grindelwald did not do as well as Warner Brothers would have hoped. However, it could also be due to all the secrecy that has been wrapped up in this film. Now, we are finally getting some bits of information as to what we might see in the new installment into the Wizarding World.

On December 10, Warner Brothers released something rather interesting from the new Fantastic Beasts film. They decided to release a teaser trailer for the trailer that they announced would be released on December 13. It was a trailer to get excited for a trailer, and it definitely did its job.

The teaser trailer for the trailer starts out with footage from the movies, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child play, fan events, Harry Potter World, and more. The narrator segues into the new footage at the end with “And new adventures are on the horizon.” We get the first taste of what Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them: The Secrets of Dumbledore is going to be. The quick montage is overlaid with a chilling line from Dumbledore (played by Jude Law) himself to, presumably, Newt Scamander (played by Eddie Redmayne).

“The world as we know it is coming undone. Things that seem unimaginable today will seem inevitable tomorrow. Should you agree to do what I ask, you'll have to trust me, even when every instinct tells you not to.”

In this footage, we get our first view of Mads Mikkelsen who has replaced Johnny Depp as Grindelwald for the next films. Mads Mikkelsen was cast as Grindelwald after Johnny Depp and Warner Brothers parted ways. Returning to this film is Ezra Miller as Credence, Callum Turner as Theseus, Victoria Yeates as Newt's assistant Bunty, and Jessica Williams as an Illvermorny professor Eulalie ‘Lally’ Hicks. Katherine Waterston and Alison Sudol will reprise their roles as Tina and Queenie Goldstein respectively. Dan Fogler is back as everyone’s favorite No-Maj (Muggle) baker Jacob. Claudia Kim’s character of Nagini was already announced to not be in this Fantastic Beasts film. Whether we will see her in the future or not remains to be seen.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them: The Secrets of Dumbledore presumably picks up where Crimes of Grindelwald left off, although how much time after, we are not sure. Based on the title, the spotlight will be on Dumbledore. However, since the end of Crimes of Grindelwald reveals that Credence is actually Aurelius Dumbledore, perhaps Albus Dumbledore will not be the only Dumbledore the story focuses on.

On December 13, Warner Brothers dropped the full trailer. Fans went ecstatic with what was revealed, which was surprisingly quite a lot.

We see that Michael Gambon is going to be in the film, presumably as a flash forward or something else completely (Mirror of Erised perhaps?) since the film still takes place within the same few years as the others. The film seems to focus on the impending war with Grindelwald, and preventing Grindelwald from hurting Muggles. Albus Dumbledore’s brother Aberforth also makes an appearance in what is potentially the Hog’s Head. As cranky as his older counterpart in Deathly Hallows Part 2, this Aberforth will be played by Richard Coyle.

In the trailer, it seems that Dumbledore has enlisted the help of Newt, Jacob, Theseus, Eulalie, and Bunty. We don’t see Tina in the trailer at all, but we do know that she is in the film. Pickett, Newt’s Bowtruckle friend, seems to be back as well, and we get some footage of a scorpion type creature. It looks like it will have a bigger counterpart similar to the giant spiders and Aragog in the Harry Potter stories.

A few of the most exciting things in the trailer though is the appearance of Hogwarts. We already know that the film has been shot in Berlin, China, and Bhutan, but the appearance of Hogwarts has many fans ecstatic especially since the characters seem to be spending a lot of time there.

However, one of the most surprising and exciting revelations from the trailer is that Jacob is getting a wand. Newt hands it to him saying “Dumbledore asked if I’d give you something.” By the end of the trailer, Jacob seems to be taking very good care of the wand. With how Jacob can get into all sorts of trouble, who knows what having a wand will do to his storyline.

Among many more exciting moments from the highly anticipated film, the trailer shows Grindelwald extracting a memory from someone. Dumbledore is also showing someone his blood pact with Grindelwald while Newt watches.

Warner Brothers has said that this film will “dive into the complex, high-stakes relationship between Grindelwald and Dumbledore to unlock the story of these two legendary wizards.” It will also be “an action-packed cat-and-mouse game of secretive plans, mysteries and fun twists and turns.”

The buzz around this movie is definitely much more positive in contrast with some of the reviews for Crimes of Grindelwald. Regardless, the release of the teaser trailer for the trailer, and the actual full trailer is sure to get fans of the Wizarding World excited for this next, long awaited installment of the Fantastic Beasts franchise.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them: The Secrets of Dumbledore is set to be released on April 15, 2022.
