The Proposal - A Movie Review

'The Proposal' is a hilarious romantic comedy.

I’m confused. Are you proposing to me or is it all just a ruse?

Attempting to propose to the theater, The Proposal arrived in theaters in 2009. To avoid deportation to Canada, Margaret forces her assistant to marry her. Traveling to his home in Alaska, Margaret and Andrew have the chance to get to learn more about each other.

The Proposal is a hilarious romantic comedy. I have watched this film three times. In contrast to the previous times I watched it, I had a lot of fun watching it this time around. The Proposal has a deeper message than one thinks.

Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds were terrific. They did an excellent job in their characters' journeys. Reynolds's facial reactions to all the drama were the best. The best part about acting is that it challenges you.

At first, wanting nothing to do with each other, my favorite scene is where Margaret and Andrew open up to one another about their insecurities. Oh yes, and the sequence where they see a little more than they were expecting.

As much as I love Bullock, she didn’t come off as icy or intimidating enough. Then again, her icy behavior is supposed to be an act. The role is a nice break from her usual typecasted personas. Bullock did incredible work opening her character out of her armor to realize her true emotions.

Since the passing of Betty White, I teared up during her first scene in the film. White’s energetic personality lights up the film. She knew how to make people laugh. Her signature scene where she and Bullock dance in the woods is hysterical! Did you know she almost didn’t do the film because she had to spend ten weeks away from her golden retriever?

The Proposal includes a noteworthy ensemble. Mary Steenburgen is always wonderful. She tends to get typecast as a mom but finds different traits to work with. The same with Craig T. Nelson who plays Andrew’s dad. Just because you get typecast, you can still make up different character traits.

More credits include Denis O’Hare, Malin Akerman, Oscar Nunez, Aasif Mandvi, and several notable ensemble members. The ensemble in every film has an important duty. Whether is playing a significant role to the main characters or reacting to the scene, everyone had a good time making this film.

While the film’s setting takes place in Alaska, filming took place on the familiar streets of Rockport, Ma. I love Rockport! Several tourists love traveling to this area, especially in the summer. It’s fun pointing out significant locations like the general store, shops, and ice cream places.

I wish they could have walked out on the barge! Every time I go to Rockport, I always go out to the very end. I’m sure everyone watching this film wishes that they could have been in Rockport to meet the cast of the film.

If you are in need of a laugh, The Proposal has a lot of funny jokes. It’s all about comedic timing. The scene where Margaret is racing around the yard trying to get her phone back from an eagle is hysterical.

The story for The Proposal has energy and wit. Knowing that it has a silly premise, the cast had fun with all the gags. There are also heartfelt moments. Anne Fletcher paid focus to the moral. You never know someone until getting to know them. You should never assume anything.

Put The Proposal on your list if you have not seen it. Honor the life of the late Betty White.
