The Moon That Mirrors The Sun

This is a follow-up for my previous spiritual analysis of Sesshomaru and Rin.

Sesshomaru and Rin had a very soulful and magnetic connection, both spiritually and emotionally. They developed a bond that required very little words because their hearts are tied together. No matter the circumstances, time or distance, Sesshomaru and Rin had a piece of one another everywhere they went.

What is a heart connection?

Our emotions are energy, and they can intertwine with another person’s. Our emotions can influence other people, and help us develop connections. Electromagnetic signals can be produced by your heart and register in the brainwaves of others around you. These energetic interactions can cause magnetic attractions between individuals.

The heart creates primary life energy, and that energy sends signals through us, beyond the impact of physical touch, that can be communicated to others silently in harmonious moments.

How could a warm soul resonate with such a cold heart?

Rin is no ordinary girl. She has an incredibly large, empathic soul, and warm energy that can be felt by the humans and (half) demons she approaches.

When Sesshomaru was fatally wounded by Inuyasha, he was deliberately transported to the exact location where he would certainly meet Rin, nearly immediately, thanks to Tenseiga’s will. Tenseiga is also connected to Sesshomaru’s heart, and in order for him to grow, something (or someone) else needed to form a similar connection to his heart. Rin was perfect beyond words.

When they met, he growled at her, in an attempt to chase her away. Rin ignored it, took a deep breath and approached him anyway. Strong hearted people, and empathic individuals, like Rin, have an insatiable desire to help anyone in need. She never would have run away when he growled at her, because he was clearly injured.

Rin felt drawn to him, even offering him food, and believing he may be some sort of God. Not only did it seem like she wanted to help him, but she felt like she needed to. She was eager to offer him assistance, and disappointed when she couldn’t figure out how to get through to him. That was why she smiled when he asked about her bruises. He was showing her what she thought was kindness. He was opening up to her. Empathy, after all, is about understanding and connecting with others. Sesshomaru and Rin shared a common bond in their dislike for humans.

It only took Rin a day and a half to impact Sesshomaru’s life forever, such a feat could only be accomplished by someone like Rin.

After spending time around Sesshomaru, Rin would sometimes warn Jaken when to be quiet, and knew when it would be best to stay distant from Sesshomaru, and give him space, because their connection allowed her to feel and understand his emotions.

Just by being present, and being herself, Rin was able to help Sesshomaru become stronger by opening his heart and connecting with him, because she had a strong calming and healing effect on him that helped him on the path to his true destiny.

Sesshomaru and Rin have a strong spiritual and emotional compatibility that shows when they are caring, compassionate and sensitive towards one another, in ways that they could not bond with any other being.

Soul Gazing

Soul Gazing is a silent form of communication, which harmonizes the energy between two people. It simply involves eye contact between two deeply connected individuals.

Rin and Sesshomaru are compared to the sun and the moon. Rin is said to have energy like the sun, often compared to Kagome because of her large, empathic soul. Sesshomaru felt a warming and calming presence from her, which you could see in his face, whenever he looked at her.

Sesshomaru is more like the moon. Cool, often cold, but calm and stoic. He even had a calming and soothing effect on Rin that made her want to be around him all the time.

When the sun and the moon resonate, they create a perfect harmony. Since most of their bond is based on silence, they communicate through actions and gazes.

With these forms of silent and spiritual communication, their level of trust is immeasurable. The two of them have no reason to lie to, or question each other.

Sesshomaru spent little time speaking with Rin verbally during their travels, which can lead one to believe that their communication was more soulful, and beyond the physical plane, much like Sesshomaru’s telepathic bond with Jaken.

The love and affection Sesshomaru developed for Rin later on, started with his attachment to her soul.

Mirroring

Sesshomaru was devoid of many emotions and lacked personal connections in his life. After his father, Inu No Taisho had passed, Sesshomaru spent many years alone, until forming a friendship with Jaken, which was more of a master and servant dynamic, even though Sesshomaru subtly cared for Jaken. Though, he still had much to learn about friendships and relationships, so his heart could develop what it was lacking.

When we encounter people, we cannot control the energy we are exposed to. We can, however, control our perception of our environment, and choose to ignore the influences, or aspire to be like them. Sesshomaru was so moved by Rin’s smile, that it caused an instant change in his heart, prompting him to revive Rin and allow her to travel with him for some time.

Sesshomaru’s growth was strongly influenced by Rin’s presence and energy. He mirrored many of the emotions Rin exhibited, which helped his personal development. Looking back at the emotions and actions displayed by Rin, we can find several parallels between Rin’s character, and Sesshomaru’s growth and development.

Rin showed tolerance and forgiveness to others, pardoning their wrongdoings and seeing the good in them. Rin thought everyone was redeemable and all life was valuable. She even tried to help and rescue people who had harmed her in the past. Sesshomaru eventually mirrored this trait by showing tolerance for others that caused him trouble, such as Kohaku and Kagura, and eventually Inuyasha.

Rin showed Sesshomaru compassion and pity, when she desired to save him after they first encountered one another in the forest. Rin wanted to do what she could to save someone, who did not want to be saved. Later on, Sesshomaru was able to show compassion and pity for someone, who also did not want to be saved, when he intended to draw Tenseiga to revive Kagura, but was unable to, because she chose to transcend to the next life.

Rin’s desire to be with Lord Sesshomaru forever, was no secret. She expressed obvious emotions of joy and relief, when in the presence of Sesshomaru, Jaken and A-Un, whom she valued and held dear to her heart. Rin had experienced the loss of loved ones before, and made sure the people she was closest to knew she cared for them, because for Rin, her time with others was precious, and she knew that tomorrow was never promised. Sesshomaru expressed this very emotion when he delved into the darkness of the underworld to attempt to save Rin. When he realized he was unable to awaken her, he expressed the grief of losing someone, and displayed the amount he valued her, as he discarded the reason he went into the underworld in the first place.

Mirroring these traits from Rin shows how deeply connected they truly were, and just how much she influenced his changes. It was because of his choice to be receptive to Rin’s energy and let it influence him, that he was able to become strong enough to gain Bakusaiga and release himself from his attachment to the sword, Tessaiga.

Sesshomaru was incredibly stubborn and resistant to affections such as love, tolerance and patience. He did not want to show any compassion or extend kindness to others. Eventually, he became everything he mocked, and these changes improved him a great deal.

Changing for the better

​​We become the strongest dose of love we receive. Sesshomaru and Rin were both changed for the better by their fated meeting.

Rin was mute, and hardly showed any emotion, much like Sesshomaru, but Rin had begun smiling and expressing many emotions after he talked to her. When traumatic mutism occurs, one becomes completely unable to speak. When Sesshomaru revived Rin with Tenseiga, her wounds were healed, including her traumatic mutism, and she was able to speak once again. He bought her a new kimono, and even made many adjustments to accommodate her comfort and happiness, such as leaving A-Un in her care, and putting a saddle on them.

Sesshomaru became stronger because of Rin’s presence in his life. His deep desire to protect her and keep her by his side caused his heart to open to many emotions, and opened his mind to a better way of thinking. He gained spiritual, mental and emotional strength from the months he spent with Rin.

When love blossoms

Years after Sesshomaru left Rin in Kaede’s village, a love blossomed between the two of them. Even though they spent much time separated from one another, with Sesshomaru only visiting occasionally, a connection between them remained strong, and their hearts were forever tied together, from the day he revived Rin with Tenseiga.

Sesshomaru’s attachment to Rin became evident when he would visit her occasionally, bringing her gifts and Kimonos, along with his attempts to resist the urge to visit her more frequently.

After having such an unbelievable influence in Sesshomaru’s life, it was obvious that Rin’s influence and impact on him would go even further once she was more mature. When Rin became a young woman, she was able to expose Sesshomaru to other, deeper emotions, such as romantic love and affection. This is likely something that never even crossed his mind. It was nothing short of a miracle that he allowed anyone into his heart to begin with.

Absence only makes the heart grow fonder. Due to Rin’s soulful tie to Sesshomaru, and their deep bond, it’s possible that Rin’s heart desired to be with him, even if she had connected with the village and had an entire life there. When she was a child, Sesshomaru was her entire world, and she adored him above all things. After creating a world of her own, living a life as Kaede’s assistant, and forming friendships, she was in a position where her heart was so full of love for others, she was able to choose between the life she created, or a life she could share with Sesshomaru.

No matter how much time had passed, the bond between Sesshomaru and Rin was still unbreakable, and only had the potential to grow even stronger, by eventually blossoming into love, and marriage. It’s likely that Rin shared her desire for a family of her own with Sesshomaru, and his desire to make her happy, caused him to mirror the desire for a family with her.

Sesshomaru and Rin were extremely impactful on one another’s growth and well-being. Sesshomaru believed that all his power was his strength, but really the power to grow and surpass his father was within his heart. He needed to learn to value life, and feel compassion for others, in order to develop true strength. He had progressed greatly, from rejecting any sort of compassion towards humans, to turning his back in battle to rescue the girl who changed him.

A heartfelt and soulful journey, together

Sesshomaru and Rin’s fated meeting was not only a meeting, but a journey of growth and healing. The two of them complimented one another in a way where they could help each other grow in strength, and in spirit, along with healing from painful, harbored emotions such as grudges and trauma. Sesshomaru eased Rin’s loneliness, and Rin helped Sesshomaru redirect his energy towards the good, and the positive things life had to offer him.

Sesshomaru and Rin had everything within them that the other person needed, and they brought out the best in each other.
