The Boys Season 5

Episode 4

By Alexandrea CallaghanPublished 5 months ago • 3 min read

We are about to hit the halfway point for this final season of The Boys. So far we have only mentioned the Gen V kids but there are nowhere to be seen. That is certainly a narrative choice that is going to potentially make this show a giant waste of time but I suppose we will see.

Firecracker slept with Soldier Boy (god this show makes me type some weird shit) and this clearly upsets Homelander but he is so far gone it doesn’t actually seem to phase him. And the supes around him are finally realizing truly, just how off the deep end he is. When he tells Firecracker that he IS the lord, she not only looks terrified but she actually looks like she finally understands that he’s crazy.

Ryan is being a stupid teenager. He thinks stepping up to Homelander was “brave” instead of seeing it as the dumbass move that it was. And then he runs off, still very much recovering from the ass beating he received from his father.

Huey being over everyone’s shit would be funnier if I still cared about his character, but I stopped being interested in him 2 whole seasons ago.

Annie goes to see her dad, who ran out on her when she was a kid. He, of course, has a new family because in damn near all - parents left child- storylines they always run off and go start a new family. It really hammers home how awful they are as people. Because I don’t actually believe you've changed, if you leave a family you already have and start a new one, it doesn’t matter how good of a parent you are to the new child you are and will forever be a terrible person and parent.

Sage suggesting Soldier Boy go with Homelander to find the V1 was great because the idea of Homelander making himself immortal clearly doesn’t sit right with Soldier Boy. Now he’s never really demonstrated anything that even resembles fear when it comes to Homelander if anything it's the other way around. But Soldier Boy is clearly concerned about the idea of Homelander not being able to die.

The way Huey is talking about Annie really makes me want to rip his organs out of his body, through his skin, one at a time. And it's pretty quickly noticeable that where they are is causing a lot more hostile interactions. Like they are being wound up by the very energy of the military base. Obviously everyone is on the base at the same time, and the boys realize that the V1 has slipped into the ground water, mutating the plants and the O2 that they give off. That is what is changing their behavior.

I love that they brought in a red-pilled teenage boy. It's way too real. He’s watching The Deep’s stupid podcast and he is rejecting the truth literally sitting in front of him and that’s about right.

Soldier Boy clearly has some deep PTSD regarding this place. He also seems really sensitive about Stormfront, who he knew as Liberty. Soldier Boy then seals Homelander in a supe-proof uranium cage so that Homelander can’t get his hands on any V1. Soldier Boy wants Homelander dead for an entirely different set of reasons.

The dumbass cop trying to arrest Annie? Bro how truly stupid do you have to be? Honestly a SUPERHERO is standing in front of you, and you think you - a normal human person - is going to arrest someone who can fly, blind you and has the strength to beat you bloody with near no effort. The arrogance.

We end the episode with Firecracker, Ashley and Oh Father convincing their little mega church that Homelander is a prophet, and the second coming of Christ. What would be really weird is if this was happening in real life, ya know like the president distributing an AI image of him as Jesus…like not that it would ever happened but if it did we could all agree that that would be FUCKING CRAZY.
