The Boys Season 4 Episode 2

Life Among The Septics

By DEVASENAN SUBRAMANIPublished 3 days ago 4 min read

The second episode of season four of The Boys opens with Will Ferrell and A-Train filming a scene in which Ferrell plays Coach Brink. When the scene ends, the latter is not pleased with how his family is portrayed in the script; however, Noir II speaks with A-Train during an intermission. Noir can't seem to stop talking, even when you want him to stop. He talks about the killings and how crazy the whole thing is. He is urged by A-Train to remain silent and to keep his mouth shut. Will he, though?

Hughie's father is receiving care from Annie and Hughie at the hospital. Though he hasn't seen his mother since he was six, she is present as well. She reportedly signed a DNR and has legal authority over Hughie's father. After a year or so of conversation, his mother thinks she can manage this. But Hughie has had enough and departs.

After the protest, Frenchie and Colin eventually start dating in another place. After giving him some TLC, Frenchie gives him a hug before they separate. It's obvious that there are feelings between them because Colin was hurt during the riot, but Frenchie is being reserved. Regarding Kimiko, she continues to have difficulty speaking and consults with a therapist regarding her speech.

She breaks her arms off the chair and storms out when the conversation turns to her parents.

Kimiko arrives back at The Boys' headquarters amid a heated dispute. MM decides that Butcher is out based on an executive decision. Although Hughie isn't exactly thrilled about it, he knows he is outnumbered and that if he sticks with Butcher, he will also be eliminated.

Ryan is shown off in a new outfit at Vought HQ. Sage disagrees with the notion that "Homeboy" is a miniature version of Homelander, even though everyone else is in favor of it. She makes the point that since he is a born supe, his identity ought to reflect that.

She introduces the issue of race, saying that Ryan ought to emulate the "white boy loners" who have a history in Hollywood. especially now that he's taking on a PG film.

Following the meeting, Sage also offers some words of encouragement to The Deep, telling him not to put up with Ashley's disrespectful behavior. Deep dismisses it, saying it's just "that time of the month" for her, but Sage makes a good effort to encourage him. In fact, Deep threatens Ashley at the lunch table with his newly acquired confidence. He feels empowered right away.

The group follows her as they all go to Truthcon to conduct reconnaissance. Butcher is already there when they get there. He grinned, explaining that he's just an ordinary private citizen who can't exactly be turned away, so he goes along with them.

Sage's true motivation for coming is to meet with Firecracker, a Supe who frequently promotes conspiracy theories and extreme viewpoints on her own vlog. This fits her definition of "selling purpose." especially by narrating tales and inspiring people to support a well-known cause.

Speaking of a well-known cause, Hughie and Annie follow A-train during this time and eventually learn startling information from him that helps clear the Starlighters who are being held responsible for the murders of the accused.

As we saw earlier in the episode when Kimiko and Frenchie went snooping, Sage thinks she has potential and tells Firecracker to meet at the "Deep Blue Sea Room."

As they argue over how to handle this situation, Butcher and MM fight again. Mother's Milk tells Butcher to go home after losing her patience with him.

When Frenchie and Mother's Milk arrive at the Blue Sea Room next door, a drunk Kimiko joins them and they discover they've been tricked.

When The Boys are left in a room by themselves, they prevail, despite the fact that one of the men is a Supe and replicates himself. The guys fight The Boys while Buck is nude, but Butcher intervenes and flips the situation around.

During all of this, Ryan's staged rescue unfolds into a wildly insane denouement. Ryan throws a man into the wall with such force that he splatters into multiple pieces. Ryan finds the scene to be quite distressing and questions the morality of it all.

He is startled, nevertheless, when Homelander sits him down and says that his presence is "good for his numbers." Ryan gradually begins to see that he is not humanly sympathetic.

Hughie confronts his mother about the past that evening. especially because of the tragic last time he saw her when he was just six years old. He sets a firm boundary and won't submit to this legal power play. He will actually be present and will work with her to make all of the decisions. if it doesn't appeal to her? He will, however, take her to court. And Hughie storms out, just like that.

Kimiko is adamant about getting even with her past and pursuing traffickers, but Butcher stops by The Boys' headquarters to talk to Mother's Milk. The two have an open discussion about the past, covering Butcher's errors as well as the perilous Truthcon mission and how it all transpired.

Dedicated to doing the right thing by Ryan, Butcher wants in. But MM tells him it's too little, too late, and refuses.
